I was told a certain coach wouldn’t come for what they offered. They voted and approved a salary and announced it. So that may have been what it took for him to come that part is speculation on my part

From my understanding, that same certain coach was the recommendation but the board didn’t think he was the right choice as of right now

Could be I’m not sure I haven’t had a chance to talk with anyone that would know. What I do know is that dragging their feet is turning people off to this job.

It wasn’t a private meeting it was open to the public. When it come time to discuss the hiring of the coach they went into a closed session which was held in another room and was private only the board and superintendent. That lasted a little more than an hour and the president of the board came out and said they were tabling it until the next meeting.

Everything they do above approving a mop bucket from dollar tree they run to that dam private room.

I called it the stabbin cabin in another thread. There were about forty people with hire tracey lampley shirts on  in the room. A couple spoke to the board.

They approved 91000 for a coaches salary . They didnt say a name or anything beyond the approval . Ghost Cosell was right a few pages back . He said they had their man and salary was the holdup. This money is for Mitch Evans. Beyond that I don't know .

What I do know is Bubba Hathorne is a cancer .

His first hire was to replace Coach Mangum.

 

Name turned into board= Daryl Carter. Board says nope.  next board meeting Shetland Gandy is hired

 

Replacing Shetland is next after covid interm Kat. Name turned into board= not sure but it was rejected . Next board meeting tied for losing coach in WC history Hankins is hired

 

Now here we go again with this ineptitude, I worry he is screwing this one up too.

This is wild. Thanks for the updates. I’ve been out of the state for a while now and it’s been nice being able to get updates through this thread. FYI Waynesboro/Wayne County isn’t the only town or school district having its problems.  I live in a fairly nice area and it seems they can’t get their act together either sometimes. I say that just to say keep your heads up. Hopefully the school board makes the right hire and the Town of Waynesboro figures out the police chief too. Wayne county is a great place with great people.

You had the opportunity to hire Mitch Evans last night and you blew it because of outside pressure from the local community who want to hire a local guy. And now Evans has probably pulled his name out after they tabled to vote. Y’all think Hathorne is trying screw everything up, but the reality is that’s probably not the case. He and the superintendent tried to hire Mitch Evans, but the board is getting all the pressure from the local community who who want their own hometown guy so now it’s all in limbo again. You cannot conduct business that way. When you have a high quality coach like that who is willing to take the job, you have to capitalize on that opportunity. You never try to please the local fanbase when hiring a coach, because the reality is the average fan doesn’t know crap about the game anyway. Fans are just passionate, very seldom are they rationale. You have to hire the best candidate for the job.

I agree. Sounds like Wayne County blew it. Now they’ll go with the hometown running backs coach. I hope it goes better for them than it did for Perry Central.

AGREED.  And for those of you who are keeping up with this, the way you see this thread and how you see the board ran is exactly what the football program over there will be if they end up hiring a hometown boy that everyone thinks they have a piece of.  Shoulda took a chance on an outsider quick.

I will say this also if the superintendent and board caved last night they are in for a long tenure. Every time something doesn’t go the way the community wants they will be back to change your mind by telling you if you want to be re elected you better do the right thing

If Mitch is who they wanted to hire, then why do you not have him on the phone and get it worked out?  Why let the outside chatter affect your decision making?  If he is able to get things turned around, then why is he not the best candidate for the job and why are you not getting him in the boat?

Dead set over there it needs to be someone from the old guard. Should have just hired Mitch and been done. Now I’d be shocked if he took it. He won’t be able to convince good assistants to get in that circus either at this point. None of this is on the hated Bubba Hathorne either.

It’s not on Bubba or the superintendent. I think they are the ones who actually offered Mitch the job and was set to make the hire last night. The board is who likely dropped the ball on all of this.
