For me its the winner of Simmons and Nanih Waiya. I don't see Taylorsville beating either one. Unless Stringer upsets whom ever they are matched up with.

Calhoun City has already beat teams better than those two. One of Nanih Waiya’s losses came to a Hamilton team Calhoun City throttled.

Calhoun City is heads above the favorite in 1A at least in my opinion. There are some good teams in 1A south, but none are on the level that Calhoun City is on. Biggersville may can play with them for a quarter or two in the north, but I doubt it.

I feel like Taylorsville is a little better than Nanih Waiya. I’m still curious to see how good Simmons really is. They always have athletes, but how will they match up against some of the other higher tier 1A south teams. Only thing about Taylorsville is they would be forced to go on the road to either Simmons or Nanih Waiya for the south state championship. Either way whoever comes out of the south is gonna struggle with Calhoun City unless they’re a team that can eat away clock.

They will have to beat them again in game 1

Petal is the 2 seed. When they did scenarios they skipped step 2. Step 2 is how the 3 teams faired against Oak Grove who got the 1 seed. Petal beat Oak Grove and the tie is broken. Brandon gets the 3 seed on head to head with NW Rankin. They admitted the mistake late last night.

I figured that with petal beating OG and Brandon. Kind of the same scenario with picayune and Pascagoula. I think Pascagoula gets the #1 seed with the point differential

Picayune is the 1 seed. They and Pascagoula both finished 4-1 but Picayune won the head to head. Now, had Gautier beaten Picayune last week or PRC not lost to Hancock, we would have a different situation.

So the head-to-head between NWR and Petal means nothing??

It does, but then it goes to how both teams did vs top seed. Petal beat og. Nw rankin did not.

That’s actually a gift to Petal with how things shake out. As I see it, their side of the bracket provides a much easier path to South State than having to go back through OS, + beat OG or/Brandon again.

They may have pulled that mais trick and lost on purpose. Lol

That's correct other than created the 3 way tie.

The way this all played out is indicative of how these teams seasons are going. OG on the rise, Petal struggled down the stretch. Pretty consistent with recent history. Would be fun to see another OG-Petal matchup with everyone healthy. Could definitely happen.

7A South feels more wide open this year than in the past. North is Tupelo all day - unless G’town works some magic.

Those are 6 of my 7 picks as well. Only one I’m unsure of is 3A because one I haven’t watched enough of the south to go out on a limb and two how healthy is Noxubee? They were the favorites early on then from what I heard got some players banged up. Them and Winona are both capable of winning it all.

OK, here's my predicted state champs

1) Calhoun city

2) Heidelburg

3) Raleigh

4) Columbia

5) West Point

6) Hattiesburg

7) Tupelo

Really good list. Don’t think you can argue against any of those. 6A and maybe 3A are the only ones that are kind of toss ups IMO. More 6A than 3A

The south is weak mostly besides Raleigh. Raleigh is a really good team. I think defensively they are arguably better than the 2022 state championship team. Very physical. I don’t know how they will match up against Winona or Noxubee, but I think they have what it takes to win for sure. Besides them Seminary is not a bad team. Union is 11-0 versus mostly weak opponents but will run into said Raleigh team 3rd round. Either way should be one of the closer championship games out of all the classes.

The south will come down to Raleigh, West Marion/Seminary winner. Hazlehurst is the dark horse now. Don’t count Magee out, I watched them vs Raleigh and that game would’ve been really close if Magee didn’t turn the ball over a million times.
