Aberdeen, Biggersville, Bruce, Water Valley

Aberdeen's wins over Amory and Winona were pretty good. Looks like the last time Aberdeen beat Amory was 2017.

Biggersville beating Baldwyn was big because it looks like they don't have another tough opponent until the playoffs

I don't know if Bruce or if Water Valley have played anyone.  Looks like Water Valley vs Myrtle will be for that district.

One team and coach that comes to mind as far as outperforming expectations is Clarkdale and 1st year Head Coach Rob Roberts. They have doubled last season’s win total at the midway point of the season with a record of 6-0. I think it’s very possible they go 9-1 with a lone loss to one of the best teams in the state (Heidelberg) and make a deep run in the playoffs.

Clarkdale / Union maybe a good game this week.  Someone will take their 1st loss.

True.

Should be a very good game. It is at Union, so home field advantage will be in their favor. Union has also played a tougher schedule and much closer games than Clarkdale. Clarkdale has won by 3 or more TD’s every week except Bay Springs. It’s really hard to make a pick because I think both teams are very evenly matched, but i’m on the Clarkdale train so i’m going with them to win. It should be a really good game though that may even need overtime.

Brannon got Clarkdale to 6-0 to start the season back in 2022 and Roberts has done the same here in 2025.  He has a chance to make some history in getting them to 7-0 and I think he can do it.  I'm like you, I'm on the Clarkdale train as well, but if Clarkdale loses this game it's not detrimental at all.  It's a non-district game, so if you're gonna lose one this is the one to lose.  Win or lose, Clarkdale will be better for playing this game and so will Union.  As far as I'm concerned, both teams are winners for playing this game regardless of outcome on the scoreboard.

Very good point. With Union’s district being a little on the weaker side, they definitely need a game like this to prepare them for playoffs. Same for Clarkdale except that their district is not weak, and they have an another level of good Heidelberg team coming to their field at the end of this month. Mize isn’t a bad team either even if their record says otherwise. 3 one score losses against some solid teams.

Other than Raleigh every one of our losses has been one score, and the Raleigh game was actually more competitive than score indicated. We have played a very tough schedule, the 2nd toughest in 2A, IMO. I know we can Monday morning quarterback all day long, but if we aren’t so careless with the ball on offense we would be 5-1 right now. But we have been careless with the ball, and it’s caused us to lose these close ballgames against a lot of good teams, so instead we are 2-4. Even against Newton county we had multiple turnovers, 3 in the first half alone, but we were able to overcome them that night. But we have played a schedule that I think will benefit us come playoff time.

I’m really surprised at how far West Jones has slid since their last title. Losing to South Jones then getting beat to sleep by Petal has to be concerning. They beat Wayne County but I can’t ever remember seeing them play so passive defensively .

I wasn't bothered by the South Jones loss. They are a good 5-A playoff team this year. You could see the improvement Harrington was making

starting last year. The Petal loss, well that's another story. The defense was going to be a work in process from the get go, and I expected them

to improve over the year, but they have lost some key dudes to injury. Even withstanding the Petal performance, the WJ offense is good enough

to make it to South State, but the defense could get them beat in the 1st round just as easily. And we can grade our coach on how well

this team rebounds Friday night @ George County.

What does a WJ loss to George Co mean? Beating Jim Hill or Forest Hill isnt going to happen. But Terry and Hattiesburg will be the toughest tests after tomorrow night

It means they are in trouble. I hope we don't find out. I know Terry is unbeaten and will be tough, but the only decent team they

have played is Canton. They should be 6 and 0 after Friday, but a lot of teams would be with that schedule.

Absolutely . They lost to McComb and very well could have lost to cripple Laurel last night. Laurel's defense is one step above playing against air and they could only manage to put up 14 points.

South jones may run the table in the regular season

Laurel couldn’t even fall upwards Friday night.  I just don’t see this scenario playing out.

Let’s not act like south jones is blowing folks out. Laurel defense can only do so much. The offense looks like a peewee team but if they can find some points that night, they will win plus it’s an in county rivalry

And that’s not knocking South Jones at all. I like what they are doing, I just like Laurel when they play them

Laurel doesn't play SJ until the last game of the season.  By that time, Laurel will be beyond well done and on their way to the landfill.  The momentum of losing is a real thing.
