A busted play for 75 yards on the first play of the year is much better than a 16 play 80 yard drive after a quarter and a half of play. Rogers looks uncomfortable and State looks slow on defense. You don’t have to be comfortable with the system to be physical, but they don’t look physical. I mean they still won by 41. I do think that it’s clear State has some playmakers on offense. Woody Marks is a really good player and I think more people will realize that this year. Even though it is a veteran team, the offense is new and different and it is going to take some time to gel. Glad we were playing SEL. I think next week against AZ we will see a better showing. rebmus Posted September 3, 2023 Share Posted September 3, 2023 Almost all of these opening games are "warmup games" and that's what Ole Miss had today. On offense, I couldn't ask for much more at all. Dart played very well and was out right after halftime. 18/23 passes/completions along with completed the first 11 in a row. 334 yards passing, 36 yards rushing, 4 TDs. Sanders 8/14 with 134 yards with 2 TDs. Howard played 1/2ish of the 4th quarter and was 3/4 with 56 yards. Howard didn't throw a TD but did QB 2 TD drives. Ole Miss punted once the whole game, and I don't recall any 4th down conversion attempts. On defense, I'll gladly take it vs last year. The first series the OM D looked lost AF and gave up a long TD. The D gave up a lot of yards in the remainder of the first half but created turnovers when it mattered so that's a wash. The D was very good in the second half. (Again, this was a very weak opponent) We'll see how Ole Miss looks on the road against a pretty good (on paper) Tulane team next week. Stayed up to watch Wyoming beat Texas Tech in double OT, awesome game. I had totally forgotten until the broadcast mentioned it that Ole Miss lost to Wyoming two years in a row in the 2000’s. They’ve pulled their share of these upsets though, got Mizzou a couple of years ago up there, and beat a Tech team tonight that seemed to be on the rise. Obviously, this week we know much better about all three teams. OM @ Tulane….should be a good game but Tulane will not sneak up on anyone this year so I like OM to win. Not a blow out necessarily but a 14-17 point type win. 42-24 final. USM@Free Shoes University…they are actually catching the Noles at a great time, a week after the LSU game. I think Eagles can hang with FSU for a while but will end up losing around 38-17. AZ-State…has the makings for a competitive game. Fortunately for us we played there last year and with this game at home, I like us to come out with a win. But it will not be easy. I think we will still continue to struggle some on offense, though we will see some improvement. State pulls away late for a 34-14 win in a game that will be closer than the final score will reflect. His son was a 4* with offers from dozens of schools, Hunter was the top player in the country and several players transferred from FBS schools just to play for him not because nobody wanted them. I don't know why he used the 75% black players figure. Most big time D1 football teams are probably 85% or higher black players. I wonder id he'd go to Florida after 2 years in Boulder. Running your mouth is fine as long as you can back it up. But eventually that can wear thin and if things go South on you it can turn into a snowball of nightmares. Dawg83 Posted September 3, 2023 Author Share Posted September 3, 2023 (edited) I’m not sure how Deion’s shtick would play at a blue blood or SEC school, but he has nothing to lose whatsoever at Colorado. They went 1-11 last year and have only been to two bowl games in the last 15 years. They are starving for success and he’s already given them some. If he just goes 6-6 this year then it’s a big accomplishment. I will give him credit though, he has made Colorado one of the most interesting teams in the country for the time being. They play Nebraska in the Big Noon slot again next weekend and I fully plan on keeping an eye on that game. They’ve got a good chance to start 3-0, then we will really find out what they have when they play Oregon and USC in consecutive games. Does Brian Kelly know that you can snap the ball to a guy 7 yards deep, another guy can run up an kick it, if it goes thru the uprights, your team gets 3 points. Somebody should tell him.
