Yet according to coaches talk (Gridiron bases their rankings off this ) apparently Gulfport is set to be the more talented team out of the two. The whole situation is just amusing. Rules be damned. I’m thinking that for once, rules were followed. Unless you think that a coach who was fired and got another job can’t bring his son to live with him. Football wise, Gulfport always has better athletes than anyone in this district. Probably that was the case last year. Gotta hope to out coach or motivate the kids to beat ‘em. After Ocean Springs has finally played great ball these past few years, I had really thought that we might have a chance to withstand losing our stud QB with an overall quality of program that the Brandons and Oak Groves have. Sustained improvement and steady growth. Then, the soap opera began with the coach bailing out and trying to recruit before he even hit the door. But, the rules were enforced, and now we can finally get back to football. We won’t be as good to start the season as we will be halfway through, so I’ll take my lumps. Still, by the time the playoffs come around, we might just be a dark horse to win a couple of games. And we can forget all about the soap opera. Picayune knows how to play and win in tough environments and yes, Brandon will be a challenge and Picayune will not take them lightly. A win is a permanent thing and it's in the record books. A loss is a permanent thing and it's in the record books. Regardless of your goofy stance on that, Picayune looks forward to making the trip to Brandon to face your Bulldogs since Pearl apparently doesn't have a football team you can get behind. This is definitely a gauntlet of a non-region schedule that Picayune has to run, but the Maroon Tide is certainly more than capable of navigating it. When Coach Triplett won the ‘86 5A Title, Picayune got shutout by Moss Point and then Picayune turned around and beat them by a point to win South State. I think the point here is that Picayune needs to finish well, but also starting well is a great thing to be able to do and early season losses don’t have to be a detriment to a football team. I’ve got this game at about 50/50. Don’t you just love a big game in the first week of the season! Neither team hangs its head with a loss, but the winner is set up to run the schedule.
