Baseball Season 2025

Talk about a make or break weekend for Lemo.  I figure he must win the series with USCe this weekend. More bad base running and E's along with really no set roles for the pitching staff could continue the seasons trend.

If this weekend is a make or break weekend, then what was last weekend?  He's gonna struggle to find a pulse this weekend too.

We will attend today's game in starkville.  I sense the mood will be somber and also my last in person game this season.   Like dawg 83 says. "yeah friends, it's time"

We all want to win and baseball has been cherished by our fanbase for decades (even before Coach Polk). Seemingly all of our ingredients are there, players, assistant coaches, fan support, NIL with the exception of the guy at the top. 
It pains me to say that it is time as well. Elevate Parker to Interim HC and let the season play out.

Or Gautreau as I think he could do a credible job as well. 
 

Though I doubt that happens. Most likely it will be the end of the season before anything happens. Rationally that is what it should be. To allow the full season to be played before a decision is made. Losing, when we know our club is talented enough to win is just demoralizing.

It probably won't happen this way but lets say state wins 1 or is swept the next 3 weeks or so in SEC.  This scenario would sure lean toward a mid season upheaval.

This is the worst start to SEC play thru 10 games in school history for State. Worse than the end of Polk 2.0. Worse than the early Cohen years. Worse than 2022 or 2023. This one topped all of those, amazingly.

Well today was the first really good game we have played since the first game in OK. 
3-9 league record means there is still a very steep hill to climb. Still have very little confidence since we just beat a team that is 2-10 in league play. 
We will see where it goes from here.

And no one really mentioned anything about Wes Pritchard getting cut right before the season started. He was a left handed pitcher who was apparently on the forty man roster until he was not a day before the season started. Just found that a bit odd.

I feel like State beat one of the other worst SEC teams at home so I’m not moved very much.

 

You take a series win over a series loss, certainly. But still a long way to go. At Bama next week will be tough, they are very good. Although State hasn’t lost a series to Bama in a decade. So we will see if that streak continues.

 

State can make the postseason still but they need to go 10-8 the rest of the way in league play. And be very good in midweeks.

This is supposedly the exact Mora quote and seems appropriate in the moment. It's possible but not exactly how you hope to do it.

State is at a point where every game is a must win. Now obviously we are not going to win every game but this weekend 2/3 is a must. Now the ST guys today said winning one this weekend will be okay. But I disagree. Need to win 2 if the team is going to have a realistic shot at accomplishing anything this year. Plus, though Alabama is good this year, they are not quite the level of a TX/LSU. So simply put, we have to win these types of series. 

Tonight’s win was a good win as UAB has a decent team this year. 
My confidence is still at a low ebb and the only RX is more cowbell….errr wins, I mean.

It’s such an odd State team because I actually like a lot of the pieces. When they have played well, they have really played well. Just hasn’t really happened against good teams yet. They struggle with doing the little things quite often.

Big weekend this weekend. OM hosts Tennessee, big opportunity to solidify your hosting resume. State is at Bama, could really use a series win here after dropping the ball in the first 9 SEC games. Going to have to beat someone good eventually to make the postseason. Probably multiple someone’s.

Tough loss for Ole Miss.

State generally seems to play well against Alabama. Good win tonight but need to win at least one more and if I am greedy, two more.

Yeah I think it’s pretty clear this State team is not the same level of bad as 2022 and 2023. They’ve still got a long way to go to make the NCAAT, but if they do find a way in, they’ve got the pieces to be a dangerous 2 or 3 seed.

 

I have no idea what any of it means for Lemonis. My guess is make the NCAAT and he’s back, miss it and he’s not.

I know normally the starter has to pitch 5 innings to get the decision. But last night since the game was over after 8 innings, it seems like Pico should have gotten the win and Simmons the save since he pitched at least three effective innings. 
4 innings was half the game. 
In the grand scheme, I know it does not matter. 
But what say you guys about it?

Score 13 runs and follow it up with one run today. 
Frustrating to say the least.

Big series win for State. Now up to 5-10 in the SEC, the path to the postseason feels more realistic than it did two weeks ago. Still probably need to get to 13 SEC wins. But with series against Florida, Kentucky, and Missouri, it’s doable. Ole Miss and Auburn series will be tough but don’t necessarily have to win either or both series, just need to avoid a sweep if you can handle business in some of these other series.

 

Need to keep it going against UF at Dudy Noble next weekend. They are similar to State, started SEC play horribly but playing better of late.

 

Did not realize how dominant State has been against Bama in baseball in recent years. State has won 12 of the last 13 series against Bama. And hasn’t lost a series in Tuscaloosa since 2010, which was probably the worst State team ever (early Cohen years).

Pitching was outstanding this weekend. 
7 earned runs in three games. 
Huge series with Florida coming up.

Winning 2 is a must plus have to win our non conference game Tuesday as well. 
Defense is still a bit spotty but was decent this weekend. Need improvement there as well.
