Bulldogs4
One more nail. Auburn probably finishes us off this weekend. But knowing State, just to mess up everything, we will probably win 2 of 3 to keep our chin just above the water line.

pancho
The social fans who go to state games for the atmosphere are going to be content either way. The people who actually expect a HC to appear competent and are growing tired of the same ole thing annually.

Bulldogs4
State sliding evermore towards oblivion today. 7-14 in the league with KY & OM on deck. Most likely will be 9-18 in two weeks and I will go ahead predict that Missouri scores at least 1 win against us to keep from being winless in the league. maroontide06
Are we going to hear of the Lemonis termination tomorrow morning or would that be one of those too good to be true kind of deals? I mean is there any State fan who wants to see him in the dugout come Spring of ‘26? Why wait till the end of the season to cut the dang cord? You’ve gotta cut it anyway, so why wait? pancho
There are some who speak of Lemons doing what Bianco did in 22. getting in last and catching fire.

That Ole Miss team had far more talent than this State team. That was a preseason Top 5-10 team that underachieved until June, then became what they should’ve been. This State team is very average in the talent department.

maroontide06
I reckon it's better late than never. Glad Selmon made the move, now hopefully he can go get a decent baseball coach.

Dawg83
It’s unfortunate that it crashed and burned like it did. Lemonis is leaving behind a complicated legacy. The highs were very high and he probably deserves more credit for them than most State people give him. But the lows were…. Well, fireably bad, as we see now. And there’s an argument that this move maybe should’ve happened in 2023 (though I understand why it didn’t). We will see what lessons are learned from the 2018 search under Cohen that famously ended up being a hot mess. Doesn’t seem like the tippy top names in the sport are gonna be discussed this time around. There are some definite names I’d make tell you no first, but I suspect good candidates may still be in play if State handles things intelligently. Dawg83
If I had to name an early favorite, and this is with zero inside knowledge, just a gut feeling…… I think State ends up hiring one of these three SEC assistants - Josh Elander, Nate Yeskie, Will Coggin. I don’t think it’s totally out of the question that they could get a sitting head coach, but it’s not an easy thing to do, as history has proven for State. Bulldogs4
2022 was understandable with our pitching staff being decimated by injuries but 2023 was no excuse. And then this year I believe the talent is much better than the record shows. That is a coaching issue. In 2024 there was no excuse for us to not have hosted a regional. In time Lemonis’ legacy will be better as people forget about these 4 years and remember 2019 and 2021.
