Mississippi heat will last into early October. I get protecting the players. How may teams are being affected and how are you guys handling the new rules

Some are beginning practice as early as 5am. Some are also starting at 7pm.

Wet bulb globe temp is different that heat index.  According to WBGT very little will change for practice and nothing will change for games.  Weather bug and zelus are 2 apps to download to understand the WBGT better what the temp range is that changes stuff for practice

I just past a bank in Waynesboro the temp was 101 at 4:55. I know it’s hot everywhere, but we’ve intruded coaches until now with really good success. Don’t get me wrong one kid is to many for something to happen to. Instill rules Like cool zones fans timed water breaks anything that makes sense. I can assure you and everyone who has turf knows the temperature is much hotter on it.

People need to stop being stupid.  We all practiced in the heat back the day.  We drank water out the hose.  Had two a days too.  Ain't no hitter now than then.  It all overreaction.  Coaches know it hot and give kids breaks.

Apparently the sun is closer to the earth than it was in our day based off an argument of this topic I had with someone on FB. I’m 40 y/o, work 12 hours a day as a Tankerman on 160 degree barges in south Louisiana where the heat index gets stupid high and I’m perfectly fine with it. I just stay hydrated.

Apparently Global Warming has taken over the MHSAA. I’ve got you beat I’m 58y/o. We went two a days on a baseball field that had more rocks than grass. We all made it just fine and there we very few water breaks lol. Now the turf is another issue the fields look great and low maintenance but extremely hot. My Grandson played on a turf field in all stars for baseball. That’s the first time I’ve saw the umpires give heat breaks every two innings they had a five minute water break and sit in the dugouts under fans to cool off.

All the more reason to push the start of the season back until the Friday of Labor Day weekend. Cut the regular season down ten games. Yes you will still be practicing in August but at least everything is pushed back two weeks.

To give you an example, this year practice would start August 7th and first game would be September 1st. Playoffs will still start the same dates in November

It’s no hotter now than it’s ever been before, even though we act like it’s hotter for some reason. The truth is we have all gotten very very acclimated to air conditioning and it’s spoiled us. We are so used to being air conditioned that we thinks it’s hotter than it’s ever been. It’s not. Yesterday, we had our 7th day of temperatures over 100 degrees. We average 5.5 days of 100 degree temps every summer. But in 1902, we had a WHOPPING 46 DAYS of temps 100 degrees that summer! The reality is, it’s actually probably even a little cooler than what it’s been the last several decades. We are just spoiled now with air conditioning everywhere.

Emperically it is hotter. Stop acting like it's not. Cactus in Arizona are dying from the heat.

Coaches will adapt. Stop whining.

You can say that all you like. The facts just don’t agree with you. And you know the saying, facts don’t care about your feelings. If you actually look at data, and not just cherry picked data from a short period of time, we are no hotter now than we have ever been. If anything, we may actually even be cooler. It’s hot every summer. Very hot at times every summer. This summer is no different. Next summer will be no different. The next summer will be no different. Every summer will be no different. Some summers will be hotter than others, and some winters will be colder than others. That’s the way it works, the way it’s always worked

This has already been met.  MHSAA teams no longer play 10+ regular season games.  Every schedule I have seen for 2023 has 10 or 9 games.

Meridian is playing 11 regular season games this year. Season start’s August 24th and finishes November 2nd with no open dates.

Yes there are 11 weeks so with no bye week it is doable.  I wasn't aware of a team.  It is very rare to see teams play 11 now.  Especially with the difficulty in scheduling non region games that going to 7 classes created.  I would say less than 5% of the state plays 11 games.

I figured this is a good topic to jump in and tell it like it is. This heat thing makes as much sense as rolling a ball up hill. They tell coaches to get your kids acclimate to the heat. Then they put restrictions after it has been done all summer with summer workouts. So now schools and coaches are cutting back getting kids unacclimated by going in the morning, late at night , or even worse in airconditioned gyms. I saw a post earlier about this rule will affect games as well. MHSAA says no it will not. The rule does not apply to games or scrimmages. So think about that. Then they move all games to 7pm . Why? Same reason we went to seven a few years ago. They said it was because games were getting over to late and ride homes. But the real reason was because the media TV/ radio shows wanted to have all the games finished so they could get back and report and show scores on the news and have everything ready . So is it really about the kids and the schools of course not. Its all about the MHSAA.
