doyouevencoachbro
Who has the best coaching staff in the state? Not just the HC but the staff as a whole. Tupelo? Gulfport? Itawamba? Ripley? Ocean Springs? JDC? OG? Starkville? Oxford? Louisville? Etc. Edited April 11, 2023 by doyouevencoachbro
JRoss1958
Hard to pick. There are some really good ones on all levels.

maroontide06
I don't think winning back to back state titles occurs by accident. As far as staffs go, you won't find a more consistent staff than at Picayune. When Lorenzo and Ty left after the 2019 season to go help Seth at the River as defensive coaches, I thought there would be a void there, but putting Seth at D.C. might have been an improvement. He was a running back at PRC in high school and was definitely an offensive guy, but he's done remarkably well as D.C.
doyouevencoachbro
I just threw out some names. Brandon and Picayune are both great as well. Just trying to start an off-season discussion.
Chunky6617
There’s no way to even know this. I mean… this is basically just asking “who is your favorite team”? Some smaller schools are lucky to even have 4 coaches on their staff.

I mean 4 coaches isn't a bad thing and they probably are a better coach anyway because they have to take on more responsibilities. Even if you've just got a head coach and an assistant or two with some volunteer coaches, then that counts and their hard work needs to be recognized. I'm sure the folks in Lumberton are proud of the coaches they have there.
Chunky6617
Well the best small school staff is at Mize. Of course I am being totally biased
longhorn75
In the MAIS, it's not even close how good Jackson Prep's staff is. Most of those assistants have been there forever.
TheAnswer
And have been head coaches at other places.
coachfball87
Depends on the criteria you use to rank the “best staff”?

positiveyard33
Not arguing with any of these at all. However, I’ve always wondered who are the staffs that do more with less. The teams that should 1-2 games but squeak out 6 instead

When a team has a ton of talent it becomes more about discipline and keeping them focused than out scheming people every week. Without discipline and focus all the talent in the world will fail. There are some staffs who are making chicken salad out of well… you know..

WinstonReb
I see Louisville's staff mentioned on a couple of these lists, and don't get me wrong Louisville has had some tremendous coaching staffs over the years with some Mississippi Hall of Fame head coaches. But when you win 11 state championships under 7 different head coaches, it's more about the players than the coaches. 1985 - Mike Justice 1986 - Mike Justice 1991 - Bobby Hall 1993 - Lynn Moore 1995 - Tony Stanford 2007 - Brad Peterson 2008 - Brad Peterson 2013 - MC Miller 2018 - MC Miller 2020 - Tyrone Shorter 2022 - Tyrone Shorter
JRoss1958
I think this is too broad of a topic. Needs to be by class I think. 6A - Brandon 5A - Picayune 4A - Poplarville 3A - JDC 2A - not sure 1A - Bay Springs and Taylorsville

He's hammered those coaches for a long time, but has kept the negativity down lately since they've had some pretty good seasons the past few years. I'd guess that guy thinks their staff is underachieving considering all the studs he claims they have.

Washed_Up_Athlete
In MAIS 6A for next year, I'd say: 1) Jackson Prep 2) MRA 3) JA 4) Hartfield 5) PCS 6) St. Joe (Madison)
TheAnswer
St Joe definitely near the bottom of the entire MAIS. With all that talent, and only won 9 games in the MAIS in 2 years… come on man.

That’s right. Cause they don’t pay crap. That’s the only downside to being in a good school district with really good grades. A lot of teachers want to teach in smith county so they are willing to take less money to come here. You can go to an underperforming school district and get wayyyyyy more money in salary.
