Jurrangelo and Bradley Loftin won’t be midweek starters for long: They already look like two of State’s best pitchers.

Granted, that might not be saying a whole lot. But those two look more talented than anyone else State has thrown since 2021 outside of pre-injury Landon Sims last year.

State got a much needed win tonight.  Lo was solid in the start and had 7 strikeouts.  Hopefully Lemonis and Foxhall can start separating the good pitchers from the bad.

Last night was a glimmer of hope. Fingers crossed that State does not repeat from last year

Hopefully, the two losses were anomalies. There does seems to be some really good pieces in place. And I know we all tend to jump off the bridge prematurely.

This weekend is big. Arizona State is going to be solid. 2 out of 3 would be good weekend.

My two points. Throw strikes and play clean defense. Do those things and the rest will take care of itself.

It’s not that bad yet LOL!  But seriously the evaluation has got to get better.  The performance from Cade Smith tonight literally came out of nowhere and it’s unfortunate that it happened when it did. State’s freshmen have really stepped up and you might see some of these veterans relegated to the bullpen.  The million dollar question is where will the line be drawn as far as what’s acceptable and what’s not along with how long do you put up with it.  They always say the cream rises to the top and that’s what State needs to find.

There is certainly plenty of talent but the early pitching has been wildly inconsistent.
Fielding defense has been spotty.

Offense has been hit and miss (no pun intended).

Still early but the staff did not forget how to coach either. So patience is the key.

I said we need two out of three. We will see how we respond today.

State bounced back with authority to take the series. Not sure how good ASU is or isn’t but the State team you saw Saturday and Sunday can be really good. It’s just that it’s hard to say how trustworthy or consistent they are yet.

USM surprisingly dropped a home series to Illinois, nearly got swept. Sets up an interesting State-USM game in Pearl on Tuesday.

Ole Miss run ruled Maryland in the 7th to pick up the series.

Maryland's bullpen was pretty horrid in the 7th. 6 walks (including a HBP) then a grand slam to end it. 7 runs on 1 hit with zero outs. That's almost unheard of.

OM's one loss came on Friday night with a bullpen guy starting against #13's Friday night guy. Nice start of the season. Hopefully Elliot will be ok by SEC play.

Hopefully State can settle down and play good baseball tonight at Trustmark Park in Pearl against Southern Miss.  The talent is there, so hopefully it gets channeled properly tonight.

I afraid State is not deep enough in pitching to win these mid weeks games

You could be right because Lemonis was complaining about having to play two midweek games (a.k.a the Hancock-Whitney Classic) for example.  I don't think they have that this week, but he's got to put the blame somewhere other than himself.

They can slug their way to wins in most midweek games but don’t know if that’s the case tonight.

This is a rare midweek game that’s on par with or better than who you’re playing this weekend. I expect State to throw arms that they feel like they can trust tonight rather than experiment, unless the game gets out of hand. So far the untrustworthy pitchers have all pretty much been older, returning guys…

State’s offense is good enough to make teams pay if they let them hang around.

Having said that, really poorly played game on both sides. 19 combined runs on only 12 combined hits. A ton of walks and HBP’s, several errors. Probably not one that either coaching staff is thrilled with. But good win for State before they head off to the Frisco Tournament.
