FBdude
Magee will now be canceling their original jamboree and the Taylorsville game will now be a jamboree. Also heard one of the Yazoo schools is doing this.
Dubaction
They had to because they are virtual until the 19th. I don’t understand the real point of making Week 1 an exhibition though. Someone would have to school me on the reasoning behind that.
Merlin
Making week 1 an exhibition at least gives both teams a chance to have an unofficial game/practice vs just not doing it at all. FCAHS went virtual as of yesterday. By next week I bet we start seeing forfeits of games due to more schools starting back over the course of the next week. coastfootballfanman
The way this variant is attacking teens and children, I have fear this season will be worse than last. This could get much worse before it gets better.

If schools want to stop going virtual then they need to stop quarantining healthy kids

What would you suggest the schools do?? If they are exposed to another student who is Covid positive. You think they should let those students just stay? Lamar County went no mask and full school for a week and a half. That resulted in sending 6 schools to virtual because of higher number of outbreaks in each school. Nothing like that happened last year here. Stay tuned for your politics comment to be put to rest… Edited August 8, 2021 by ogwarriorbandman
FBdude
Most private schools start class this year but started actual football practice in July. Last year many Private Schools were maskless and had no issues. If kids were sick they stayed home if they weren’t they came to school. pancho
You just hit the nail on the head with the part about staying home when sick and the others going to school. Last year my college age daughter was exposed to a positive person and sent home from college on 2 occasions. One time she simply came home and live with us and we carried on as normal. The other occasion she went and stayed with my other daughter who lives in starkville. I talked to a particular person yesterday who said his church still closed down and he's afraid to send his 4 yr old grandson to school and wishes the child could just get the shot and be done with it. He didn't respond when I asked him if we had enough info on side effects etc. He said that they have stayed home now for over a year and a half and go nowhere. He conveniently left out the part about him going to work daily and going to the grocery store etc. I truly hate the fact that folks are sick etc but now they say that a vaxxed person still needs a mask and that there is now another strain even though they give no information as to how the tests are conducted any differently than before that I'm just about done with it. It's just embarrassing to see folks intentionally just walk away from others in a store. It's either a total sham or they should just tell us that they have no idea if a mask will help or not but that is simply all they know to try. The CCP and many politicians along with the drug companies are smiling and piling up ca$h as a result.

All I can tell you is that while this new wave is more contagious, it’s not affecting young people at a higher rate. The percentages of hospitalizations are the same. The death rate is actually lower for all people, thankfully. But it’s definitely more contagious. I think the schools should do exactly the same thing they did when a kid was exposed to another kid who was positive with the flu. The state has actually gone back to pre-covid protocol. Any school district that hasn’t is making that decision themselves locally

Lamar county didn’t have to go virtual because they weren’t wearing masks. They would have went virtual even if they had went back to school with masks. It’s gonna spread, mask or no mask. We have seen it for over a year now

And also college football stadiums are going to have anywhere from 60,000-100,000 in them next month. But schools are shutting down.

When something is way more infectious, then you will have higher numbers across the board. But the hospitalization “rates” and death “rates” from covid are not higher. Severe illness and death rates actually so far have been the same or lower, which is what happens most of the time when viruses mutate. ogwarriorbandman
Lamar County going back tomorrow the way they were last year with hybrid A/B schedules and required masks.
