2023 Championships

Anybody know how the game schedule will change next year when 7 games are played? right now it is 3 games fri and 3 sat so thats obviously going to change.

My guess would be 1 game on Thursday. Probably 1a game

They said 2 Thursday and 2 Friday with the late game both starting at 7:30.

Saturday will have 3 games with the first one at Noon.

12? why change times on the 3 game day?!  its bad enough now trying to find some place open to eat after the last game. it puts all the people driving home on the road later too. same with 7 changing to 7:30. they are just moving stuff cuz they like wielding power over us peons.

Alabama does 7a on Wednesday, then 3 on Thursday and 3 on Friday. Just shift that to Thursday - Saturday.

He mentioned the later start time would allow more fans time to get to the game on a weekday.  Also said 4 games/day just isn't doable.  

 

Also was asked about Hattiesburg hosting the past 4 out of 5.  Said The Rock's configuration (no track - fans closer to the field) is a major plus.  Sounds like at least in the near term it will remain there.  I caught the interview mid-way through, wish I had heard the whole thing.  Would have loved to hear some comment about the crappy streaming issues with NFHS.

I got refund from NFHS. I sent an email and they sent it within an hour.

if they keep it at USM the real reason would be the games, all of them, at USM have had higher attendance than when they had them anywhere else in the state.  Lots of money made from that.

Jackson had to have some pretty good numbers thru the years.

it did. But MHSAA wants to move away from there. With good reason. That’s why it went to a rotation of msu - ole miss a couple times each then they decided to include Usm in rotation.  It was at Usm 2 years in row to give then it was to go back to msu in 2020 and something happened to move it to Jackson. I forget what. After that it was assumed to go back to msu but ended up at Usm.  
 

But the games at usm, every class, all 3 years it’s been there, have averaged higher attendance than anywhere else.  And it should. Most of the states population lives south of I-20. More average fans will go watch games even if their teams aren’t in them. And Hattiesburg is easier to get too with higher number of state highways and the interstate around it than anywhere in the state except for Jackson.

2020 was the covid year and the season started later. MSU wound up having a home football game that Saturday.

Theoretically Jackson is the perfect location, in practice Hattiesburg makes more sense. I say leave it there

The turf field is a positive if it were to rain over the 3 day period as well.  We enjoy the hattiesburg dining and lodging options as well.

I hate turf for high school kids, honestly it needs to go at all levels

By the time that 6th game was played it would have been almost unplayable. Remember it rained before the first game yesterday

I understand that, but the risk of injury is so great on turf compared to grass. Turf is a danger at all levels.

 

Hartfield's QB tore his ACL in the all star game on turf. His exact words, "I hate turf, I wish we could play on grass"

If turf is so bad, why have so many schools who can afford it have it installed? The old style 1970s ASTRO turf I could see hating it. The new field turf isn't bad at all.

If Picayune had to go back to grass, they would have to put that goofy looking crown back in the middle of the field,  there would be no painted end zones, yard line markers or the Tidesman logo at the 50 yard line.  There would be bald spots on the crown and sand poured in random holes on the field.  Grass ain’t for everybody.

If it's about protecting athletes, then grass it is. If it's about how it looks, safety be damned, then turf it is.

Relax…the turf at Picayune is not a hazard or a danger.  The grass field that we used to have was dangerous because you needed a topographical map for it.

The NFL did a study a while back - in-filled turf fields have a 67% higher incidence rate of ACL's than grass.

Still inherently safer because of feet not sticking in the turf etc. If the field is that bad, that's on the district and to a lesser extent the coaches.
