Are you talking about a former player or someone who coached under him because if you were coaching under him then you have your years in. That was from 93 to 00. If you had a former player who played under Doug Merchant and is qualified to apply, it wouldn't hurt at all.

TigersFan
Most at Hattiesburg probably don't even remember who Coach Merchant is. I am positive Hattiesburg has changed drastically since he was there and sure like other posters said many under him have retired or close to it. By now those worth a grain of slat have established their own Legacy.

After being pretty irrelevant throughout the entire 1970s until the mid 80s, Coats was the one that got the HHS program back on track. Coats and Merchant were great coaches during their time I agree, I am just saying that the majority of the kids probably all don't know who those two are and most of their parents probably don't either. Clever Clogs
I don’t know why schools keep the hiring process so secretive. It’s not like it’s the NFL or college where someone is going to out bid you for your coach. In many cases board approval is just formalities. If that's who they get, then I guess they got who they wanted. Just doesn't make sense since this would be his 4th different head coaching gig in 4 years. coastfootballfanman
He saw the writing on the wall at Moss Point and knew the window for success is small at best. PRC was a chance to be closer to home and build something there. I agree it would not make a ton of sense especially since leaving Moss Point was supposed to be about going back closer to home.
