Hightide
Very intense football game tonight. West Jones has the best defense we have played this year.

Picayune turnovers gave WJ all but their first score. Picayune defense was exceptional tonight. it's silly to say wj would have won without the turnovers when it's the only reason they were in the game to begin with. turnovers go both ways. Besides you guys complaining about the playcalling are gonna get taken to the wood shed by Bubbaj our self-appointed forum censor who doesn't allow talk that questions the coaches' play calling. I thought that would be the case going into the game. But we stopped ourselves a lot tonight. I feel like Laurel's defense played us tougher, but WJ defense did play well. They gave great effort.

WJ got 7 due to picayune turnovers. Take them away and Odds are very high the WJ wins if all they do is snap the ball, run 3 times and punt the entire 4th quarter. The scoop and score and the fg after we fumbled the punt. So by your logic we should be in overtime. ccbulldog
Once Picayune squandered half of the 3rd Q on a long dive that come up empty, all west jones had to do was run run run. The west jones defense was playing good enough and Picayune's offense needed a lot of time to move the length of the field, the time would have just ran out on Picayune or they would've had to ditch their strong running game. I am shocked the west jones coaching staff played right into the hands of Picayune.
slicklizard
First of all the way that Picayune just performed at the end with the pressure on was a site to behold. With time running down and behind ten points most teams would had wilted when given the chance to get back in the game. Great teams pounce when given the opportunity. See y’all again next week. Now West Jones. What the hell are you doing ? You got the lead in the fourth you are playing against the clock. Everything you do on offense should be with one thought .Keep the clock running . The series before the int West threw it three straight times. You know your QB is a liability throwing. Protect him. You defense is pumped, you get an int. Everyone is celebrating and you let a wr throw a pass. Why ? You got the lead. Run the ball a few times and try to put that ace kicker close enough for a FG. Between that screw up and the series before they could have milked seven minutes off the clock maybe more. The best team won as it should be but changing your formula that is working in midstream is very Lewis Sims like. West defense played their tail off.

I love it, and hope that my Greyhounds never gets on your bad side. Now, which is next week’s premier game in south Missippi. We’d like to think it’s in Ocean Springs, but hard to say.
Tidesmanforlife
Your absolutely right Slick when u ahead like that u run run run and worked the clock. Picayune was stopped 3 times on 4th down. They had 4 turnovers and missed a field goal. But they never gave up. There defense played lights out. I do give credit to West Jones defense they were really good also. Besides the 78 yard pass for a touchdown on the 3rd play of the game Picayunes defense kept West Jones offense in check. Picayune had over 300 yards rushing. West Jones had around 160 yards total offense. Picayunes defense kept us in the game and give a chance at the end.

It’s a good thing there is a big high school football game on the coast again. If I wasn’t going to watch the rematch I would definitely be there. The coast needs to show up and pack out this game. Come on Dave you know I love the Greyhounds and they could never be on my bad side Coach Mangum used to coach there and my nieces and nephews will be starting there soon. My kind of people live there. I put Lewis Sims in there because one time he brought Moss Point to Wayne County in the playoffs. They had two tailbacks that could fly. They beat us on the edge almost every play. It was tit for tat scoring for a while and I was genuinely worried that we would lose a possession somewhere and get beat. For some inexplicable reason they stopped running them in the third quarter and started passing every down. We sacked the QB a few times and got an int. After that we zoomed away on the scoreboard. I left that game scratching my head about why he stopped running those race horses. I remember one of their names now. Byron James. You got your FG off a fumble recovery on our side of the field. We held 3 downs and you kicked a fg. both teams were sloppy for sure. The stats will show who moved the ball more with their offense but it is irrelevant now. good game.

Oh, I loved Coach Mangum, and kind of butted heads with him once when he wanted my kid to play jv quarterback instead of trying out other positions where he could get varsity playing time. Son dropped football for full time baseball and a state championship ring. A case where the outcome was perfect for everyone. Ive gotten so used to Goula playing us with the same talent, only to play terrible, that I feel sorry for the kids. Sims must have some pretty bad pictures of that school board to still have his position. High school football fans in south Mississippi should be in heaven next Friday night, getting to choose between three of the best athletes the Coast has ever seen. Throw in Stone too. Doesn’t matter which way you drive, these will be three heavyweight games. Check out Bray Hubbard’s stat line that carried O.S. on to the next round. Hoping that you pick the best game next week, and then maybe on to Hattiesburg. Edited November 19, 2022 by David
David44
I think everyone has already expressed my sentiments on the WJ 2nd half play calls. Let me give a big thumbs up though to the tide broadcast on the NFHS stream. Although I missed most of their halftime, came back to it they were talking family praying together, mentoring young men, and dad’s being real dads. We need a lot more of that and I admire them for not being ashamed to express it publicly. I plan to go back an listen to the parts I missed.
