Yeah it’s pretty dim around here, but I’d be surprised in an outcome that didn’t favor y’all.  There’s no amount of Vaseline that can soothe Petal unfortunately.

A lot of people have other things going on… such as life. Some folks are actually out there grinding, coaching and working to win a game. The average man has no idea how hard it is to win just one football game. Below average men come on here and criticize and demean men they wish they could be. I feel sorry for those boys. They will never know what it’s like to put their heart and soul into something, only to be criticized by incompetent people.

Petal will not need any Vaseline. OG better be ready.

Kinda late to post anything about this game. Normally this board would be lit up when they played. Anyhow, can Petal pull the upset and get the no.2 seed and make Oak Grove go on the road to face Gulfport?

Petal is on the way up now that Broyles is back, but still not strong enough to overcome OG. Petal hasn't won vs OG since 2019.

I think Petal beats Gulfport next week. Only Region 4 team I see winning next week is Ocean Springs

OS was a #1 seed last year and lost to the #4 Meridian AT OS. Nobody saw that coming. But Meridian did have an outstanding year in 2023. But that coast region is just not strong. A great regular season record in that region means very little. I don't necessarily see NWR taking it to OS this year. But, stranger things have happened. If NWR does pull off an upset, that puts NWR back at OG for another matchup between those 2 teams for round 2. OG has already beaten both teams this season. So no matter which of those gets to Round 2, I'd imagine it'll be OG's to lose - sending them back up to Brandon for a day-after-Thanksgiving match up. Again.

Bless Biloxi. They can't seem to get a break. They're always at OG for round 1.

I can see Petal/Gulfport going either way. Gport definte advantage being at home.

I don't see any way Brandon loses first round at home. Their second round will be at home again vs the winner of Petal/Gulfport. Easy path for Brandon right back to the South State game.

NWR already beat OS earlier in the year. Different teams now for sure but it would not be a major shock to see NWR beat them again

Like I said - I could see it. I'm not necessarily calling for it - but I would not be surprised to see it happen.

NWR has not done well in playoffs since their South State run in 2019 where they lost to OG at OG before OG lost to Oxford in the 6A championship game. Meanwhile, OSHS has been a playoff staple for years, even making it to South State in 2022 after beating OG in the 2nd round. Playing at home is usually a huge advantage for OS - as it is for most teams. I think it's a 50/50 probability on this outcome. I'm sure OG would love to see NWR take it to OSHS as it would grant OG hosting rights for round 2. Good luck to both teams!

As compared to their own recent seasons? Yes.

Making playoffs for Meridian was huge. For them to even be in the conversation post-season was a large step forward. And then losing their QB1 and their coach was a huge step backwards.

But for them - even making playoffs was big. And then beating the #1 seed OS at OS... yeah. That was an outstanding season for them as compared to their recent seasons.

A couple of inaccuracies to point out here. The Covid year OG beat NWR they went on to beat Oxford.

Also I don’t think OS has exactly had that much more playoff success than NWR. Outside of the Hubbard years those two programs would probably be a toss up for the most part. Unfortunately NWR has had to deal with OG and Brandon who have been the two monsters in South 7a (previously 6a).

OG played Oxford for the State Championship 2x in successive years.

2019 OG lost to Oxford at USM.

2020 (the covid year = OG's undefeated year) OG beat NWR at OG for South State beore beating Oxford in Jackson on a last second 2pt conversion.

And like I said - I don't think OSHS nor NWR are highly favored in this first round. It could go either way. And yes, the Bray Hubbard years were somewhat of an anomoly for OSHS.

And yes, OG/Brandon are typically the beasts of South State. You've got to go back to 2017 to find a year where someone other than OG/BHS went to the State Championship game from South State (shout out Pearl HS).
