And they still lost. Definitely a crazy game, but a win State desperately needed. You take a win any way you can get it over the Lady Vols.

College Baseball is oh so close to being here!

I certainly hope that's not an indicator of how things will be in the regular season. If the offensive output is just plain better, I'll take that by a country mile. Now if the pitching ain't gonna get no better then that's not good. I think Lemonis will feel the pressure if the pitching staff can't throw strikeouts. -
You make a great point because we haven't seen the Sun Herald, WLOX or WDAM take off and run with a story about it either.

His twitter account still says he's Stone's football coach and he made a post 15 minutes ago about seeking God's approval.
-
There's going to be playoff caliber teams in the North sitting at home when the regular season ends and there will be non-playoff caliber teams in the South in the playoffs when the regular season ends. Makes perfect sense.
-
Wow, that region 2-6A looks real competitive. I think the picks are good, but don't be surprised if everyone is chasing South Panola in Region 1.

After that post, I saw where PRC has an opening for an Assistant Coach. I just don't know how much of a difference that will make.
-
State just needs to keep the momentum going and build off of their last two wins. I feel like the team has some confidence and have finally turned a corner. They just need to stay hot. If they can do that, the NCAAT is a very possible postseason destination.
-
It is, but metal bleachers are cheap. The cast-in-place reinforced concrete and fancy decorative brick work is where it can get expensive. They could probably get a stadium and field house similar to Purvis and stay within budget.
-
The article from WLOX on May 18th of last year shows renderings of the football stadium and high school. If they can't get any portion of what they show done then it will be some serious false advertising and a bunch of angry taxpayers.
-
You must mean International Paper, but yeah they've got the poles and piles covered in Wiggins. I think they supply New Orleans with all of their timber treated piles, but Wiggins winds up being a suburb of either Gulfport or Hattiesburg so what you said makes complete sense.
-
There's not a whole lot of industry there. They don't have the pickles anymore and all they have pretty much is timber and logging. I guess that lumber mill is still going off of Hwy 49.

Yes Stone is it's own district. The county isn't very big population or land-wise, so they just have the one high school. They play all of their football games at A.L. May Stadium in Perkinston, but they are about to get a brand new high school and new football stadium so they won't have to share with Gulf Coast anymore. Not that that's a problem, but they will be able to have their own logos on the football field which is something they've never had before. It's definitely not a bad gig and with the new facilities coming it will be better. I don't know why the pay is low, but if they want to get a good coach then they may have to reassess the pay ceiling. There definitely isn't a doom and gloom future there like there could be at some other schools.
-
I know Dub wouldn't like it, but any coordinator from OG would be a huge get for Stone. If they can get the pay reasonable then it would definitely make the job more enticing.
-
They could do PRC a huge favor and hire Jacob Owen, but there's a 99.9% chance that won't happen. PRC likes Jacob Owen way too much for something like that to happen.

Interesting thread here. I think I'll pop a bag of popcorn and watch what happens LOL!

Everything that has transpired with Feaster going to Moss Point definitely is a surprise. I'm not so sure that it's greener pastures over there, but maybe he's got some fertilizer or something that he can bring with him to get the PH levels up. I certainly hope it works out for him, but he's got some serious soil treatment to do over there if he wants to bear some fruit. Just think about the potatoes that Matt Damon grew on Mars in "The Martian". He's definitely going to have to science the heck out of it there.
-
I guess that's just proof that the grass ain't always greener on the other side. He had a good thing going at State and had just bought a farm in Starkville when he took the Texas job. Who knows what he saw in the Texas job. I mean they probably paid him more, but he was making pretty good bank in Starkville.

That's the thing. There's a difference in being a good recruiter and a good coach. Hopefully he's got a combination of the two, but if he doesn't it'll probably be a short tenure. Vic was in rare air in that he was able to do both, but initially he didn't get any 5 star McDonald's All Americans. He had to coach his players up to that level, but was able to do so. Can Purcell do the same thing? The answer to that question remains to be seen. I also think Sam needs some more time to get the roster like he wants it, but he should have that pretty much complete by year 3.

So should we be lighting up cigars for PeeWee championships knowing they carry that much weight?
-
Give him a break. This 7 classification junk is going to take a little bit of time to get adjusted to. I honestly don't think anyone outside of the MHSAA wants it anyway. It certainly isn't needed and it mostly watered everything down and if it's not watered down enough for you, just opt out and go independent.

If Raleigh played Enterprise this year that might be a primo matchup, but they haven't played each other since 2014 and Raleigh is now 2A and Enterprise is 3A. Enterprise does play Mize, so that might be an interesting matchup there.
-
It's a good thing y'all scheduled Taylorsville. I know they will be 1A this year, but that seems like a good rivalry game that you have. I realize the series has been dominated by Taylorsville, but Raleigh has certainly turned things around there.
-
The 20-8 first period ended up being the difference in that game. It just proved to be too big a hole to climb out of. When you come out flat and don’t show up to play from the very beginning you get beat and that is what we saw tonight. If you take the first period away State is only down by 3 which would be very manageable, but the deficit was just too big to overcome. Myah Taylor has definitely made some history in being a part of sweeps on both teams.

Which high school team do you pull for Rebel Bert? Is it a school in one of the smaller classifications?
