Jackson Public Schools Consolidation or Closures
maroontide06 replied to Rebel Bert's topic in Football
I get all of this, but what’s it going to take to minimize the blight that these closures are going to cause? Thankfully the King Edward got renovated and revitalized, but that’s just one building though. If they decide to close schools up there in Jackson they need to have a revitalization plan so that the property doesn’t become blight. -
Jackson Public Schools Consolidation or Closures

Do they even play football at Newell Field anymore? The stadium between Bailey and Murrah? If not it’s a dang shame. -
Why they doing this on a Thursday? I hated it when they started putting the last regular season game on a Thursday. JUCO ball is going on right now so these high school Thursday night games make no sense.

Judging the South- Slick Seven Points October 3
maroontide06 replied to slicklizard's topic in Football
I agree with everything you said. My problem is that I like to try to use a conventional line of thinking. Well guess what? With the way these classifications are watered down now you really can’t. When you schedule tougher opponents and you come up on the short end of the stick like in Laurel’s case it absolutely has no bearing on region play or postseason play. If Laurel can run the table in region play and navigate their way to the playoff finals, nobody will remember they started 1-5 because what happened in non-region play was just vanity. -

I can agree there, but High will just flame out if he makes the playoffs. I certainly don't trust him, do you? -
I don't think anyone is sleeping on Meridian. Coach Boyles is one of the best to ever do it in Mississippi. Having said that though, this Oak Grove team is really, really good. That certainly isn't taking anything away from Meridian, but this is only Coach Boyles first year there. Just give him some time and he will have things completely turned around there. Next year will be even better than this year.

Judging the South- Slick Seven Points October 3

Provine has the best record in 5A South right now at 4-2. Take that as you will. It probably won't hold a drop of water though. -

Laurel is currently 1-5. Just sayin'. Surely there's got to be someone better in 5A South. -
They've got to be and for McComb to go to Laurel and get a win between the bricks definitely bodes well for them as well.
-
Do these two teams look good or what? I feel like they are going to tear things up in 4A South. Heck, there may not be anything left after they get through. There's other great teams in 4A South as well, but it feels like there's a sizeable gap there. Feel free to post any 4A South thoughts that you might would have.

Based off of size, it sounds like Taylorsville probably had the toughest schedule in the state regardless of classification. Kudos to them for doing that and they are a 1A school. They should be able to soak up their district schedule like a dry sponge.

He was supposed to be out 4-6 weeks. I think that's how long it takes for bone to heal.

Picayune plays at Pascagoula this week. I know we're not going to have #6 back this week, but hopefully we've gotten some much needed rest and rehab. I don't really know much about this Pascagoula team, but this week it's more about Picayune. I'd like to see Picayune play a cleaner ballgame and that means cleaning up the penalties and fumbles. I'd also like to see us run the offense with a little bit more finesse because I think that will help our tailbacks out so much more. I think that will come, but I also think it's something that we've had to relearn or in the process of relearning. Having Dante back there finesse was something that we didn't really need, but now that he's run out of eligibility and at Oregon we need to have some finesse. In regards to our defense I'd like to see our secondary play fearless and with some grit. Hopefully those things will happen.

@RUNNINGMAN67where is your fathead of "The Stog"? LOL!
-
Long Beach has two wins this year so I reckon that's saying something, maybe a nominal improvement. It just won't be pretty Friday for them.
-
Great point here. Dub might need to reign this feller in a little bit LOL!

As long as Meridian ain’t riding on a Nicholson tire, they’ll be able to go. Oak Grove may just go further.
-
simma da na! Going up to Meridian for OG may not be the cake walk you envision if OG has the big head. OG is very, very good but this is high school football for a reason. As long as Gulfport and Ocean Springs are good football teams (which they are), you’ll continue to hear about them. I know you want Oak Grove to win (and they prolly will), but you’ve got to respect Meridian as your opponent. As long as you do that, Oak Grove won’t have many troubles.

Ain't it funny how the 247 site died over the weekend?
-
Our game against y'all should be more than enough to force us to play better. If it's not Picayune won't be playing football in December.
-
Like better than Hancock dangerous?
-
Unfortunately that gel is going to get uncoagulated Friday night for d'Iberville.
-
They struggled to beat Florence, yes they did beat them, but if that is your toughest opponent thus far what is there to gauge them? They definitely are a playoff team in our district, but how they fare against Pascagoula, George County and West Harrison will give a clearer picture there.
