Best teams that you have personally seen in Each classification.

5A was the largest classification in 1987 so it's relevant. Obviously, you're not wrong on a technical level but listing the best team by classification wouldn't be relevant given many of the evolving classification standards, juxtaposed with the enrollments of 5A schools in the 80s and 90s -- including Pascagoula which had an enrollment of over 2,000 students in 1987 -- versus today's enrollment numbers of 7A schools. At the highest classification, it's a few South Panola teams, 1987 Pascagoula, 1985 Meridian and maybe '96 Moss Point in the discussion for the greatest team. -

Their '95 team was the most loaded and lost in a wild south state game to Hattiesburg at Dantzler after leading by several touchdowns. They were undefeated entering that game having pitched seven shutouts and averaging 31.5 ppg. -

Bless their hearts. Give that team a spot in the top 5 slots. But 1987 Pascagoula would not be shut out of the top 5 slots which was your prior assertion. -

No. 1987 Pascagoula is in the mix for number one. Over 20 players on that roster played college football and two of them -- Shane Matthews and Terrell Buckley -- finished in the top 10 of the 1991 Heisman Trophy voting. -
They aren't luring another minor league team. Pearl and Biloxi were the bottom two in Double A attendance last year. Biloxi can begin raising their arm to wave goodbye to the Shuckers in the very near future.

They were gutted by graduation after he guided them to the playoffs for the first time in their history in '22. Dubose was building for the future by playing a significant number of underclassmen this year and they took their lumps. There's nothing suspicious about the hire when your program has been in the wilderness for most of fifty years and you've snagged a three time state champion, particularly in Alabama where football -- broadly speaking -- is coached/played at a higher level than in Mississippi.

Some of you need better sources, btw.

I understand his sentiment but that line of thinking is why most coast football programs are underachieving abominations. I'd rather my administration pivot and take a swing and miss than maintain the status quo of mediocrity.

Biloxi interviewed candidates yesterday and have additional interviews on Monday.

Terrible call on the last play, IMO. 1) They had shown that play earlier in the drive so the element of surprise was lost. 2) He called a timeout so you know the Clay-Chalkville coaching staff made their players aware of the possibility of another QB run. And why would you not allow one of the better high school QBs in America to not make a play with his arm?
-
Meridian keeps taking those kicks to the nuts.

Their QB is committed to Texas. One WR is the top ranked wideout in America, another WR (who transferred from Gautier) has SEC offers, and the RB has SEC offers as well. And a defensive lineman is committed to Alabama.

Saraland, which is in 6A, might be the best team in Alabama. Their margin of victory has been over 40 points a game.

Is there a head coach in waiting?
-
He reached the playoffs in his first season. They've only fielded a team for 4 years and he was gutted by graduation last year. It would be a massive hire for Biloxi.

The West Jones five man defensive line absolutely obliterated the Picayune offensive line like I haven’t witnessed. You wonder if Stogner and staff didn’t see big trouble ahead in film study because this was a mismatch in the trenches.
-
He likely shortchanged Picayune a couple of TDs. Had it not been for Lewis Sims begging the officials to have a running clock in the second half, the final deficit would’ve been more of a landslide. An embarrassingly pathetic showing by Pascagoula. My compliments to Picayune.

21 years ago, following consecutive 1-10, 0-11, and 1-9 seasons, the Ocean Springs community having had enough of being a colossal embarrassment, rallied and demanded accountability and higher expectations. 2 years later they reached the state title game. They've had 3 losing seasons since (and sent that coach packing for diminishing results later in his tenure). It's obvious there was a similar sentiment (probably by a smaller contingent) in Gulfport after another mediocre finish in 2022 -- they would never have poached another highly successful coach if not. Perhaps Biloxi wants to prioritize football in a way it hasn't in more than 50 years.

You’re a first class moron with limited reading skills if you think I was disparaging Chad Coleman. He was an outstanding defensive football coach who fielded consistently sound defenses throughout his tenure.
-
I don't think this game in any way resembles the 2012 rematch affair. The game is in Picayune (should've been in 2012 as well), Picayune has more athleticism and playmakers on defense, and Pascagoula doesn't have a front seven remotely as talented as the 2012 bunch nor the playmaker and athlete Warren was at QB. Oh, and most significantly ... Kevin Fant isn't coaching QBs and running the offense, and Chad Coleman isn't calling the defense.

Gulfport and OS are going to continue to have a problem come playoff time if the other region 4 teams continue to be cream puffs and little more than scrimmage affairs. It’s proving difficult to encounter the physicality and athleticism of the region 3 teams (which are far more battle-hardened) after several weeks of skull-dragging the likes of St. Martin and D’Iberville. Don’t foresee this changing with the really-don’t-give-a-damn approach that most of the other coast schools exhibit.
-
The OS offense — particularly QB play —was exposed against Gulfport. Three interceptions tonight, including a pick six and another returned inside the five yard line resulting in another Meridian TD. The Meridian front seven contained Smith and the secondary was never threatened. Boyles shortened the game by leaning on his offensive line and the physicality of Hill. He’s made chicken salad out of the complete lack of any downfield passing game but their season will almost assuredly end next week.

Y'all are in danger of morphing into another version of Pascagoula. Bless you.
