Did Pierson have input on his successor when he retired or did he not meddle?

If true, then the fine people of Batesville need to readjust their expectations to square with reality.

Most of those names don't elicit excitement.

That's a great story. Lewis is a coach you'd want your son to play for because he'd always prioritize the player's well being, maturation, and development. I only wish he'd surrounded himself with better coaches the last decade.

If he had uttered that quote at many points thru the years prior to the split with Gautier, he would've been on to something. Pascagoula was the largest school in the state for many years and failed to capitalize on the number of athletes walking those halls -- except of course in 1987 (and 1988 as they again had the best roster in the state and the coaches botched a repeat championship) when they couldn't screw up arguably the greatest collection of football players on one roster in the history of Mississippi high school football. However, his assertion that Pascagoula could've gone on a run similar to South Panola was laughable even with high level coaching. There have been dips in talent (certainly not bad enough to have suffered back-to-back 3-8 and 1-10 seasons in 2017-2018) and they've never had the strength along the lines of scrimmage those Panola teams had. I still contend Lewis had his most talented team in his first year at Pascagoula. If he and his initial staff had had more time coaching that group, then he may have gotten his gold ball but Picayune was too good in 2011 and they weren't good enough offensively to hang with Starkville in 2012.

The back end is the strength. The front seven is undersized and was pushed around by the better offensive lines. Terry moved the ball on the ground but couldn't finish drives.

There may be a designated TE but they don't have really have a TE in the physical sense and haven't thrown to him hardly at all since Brewer came onboard. In 2 and 3 wideout sets, the TE is pass protector.

Very deceiving score. The defense scored two TDs. Terry's QB overthrew two TDs and one of the defensive scores was a pick six (another bad throw) as time expired in the first half. It was not easy sledding for three quarters for the Pascagoula offense.

Yeah, it's been the opposite. Last week was the first time they've been tested since Picayune (most of the region was pure garbage and they ended the season with an easy slate of opponents) and the offense struggled for the first time in weeks. But moving Loper to QB saved the season with the presumed starter not playing well and then being injured.

Bad loss, no excuses. Amarie Jackson was injured in that game and didn’t return until after the Picayune game.

Other than Keys, who are Hattiesburg's standout players?

They do, especially outside the hashes (those wideouts haven’t graduated). Loper throws a great deep ball but hasn’t demonstrated the ability to excel in the intermediate game.

Gimme the Hattiesburg scouting report. Can they stop the run with their front seven because that is the key to this game. Terry played two deep for most of the game and stymied Pascagoula (the Panther defense scored two TDs). If Hattiesburg bottles up Amarie Jackson, then the Pascagoula offense struggles. Conversely, Pascagoula’s defensive front will struggle to stop the run if Hattiesburg has a formidable offensive line. Pascagoula has a very good secondary with two players having SEC offers so the matchup with Keys will be particularly intriguing against the FS Tylan Wilson.

Pascagoula 20 Terry 0 Half Terry had a good game plan but not the QB to execute in crucial situations.

6A isn't much better with so Picayune and Pascagoula looking like the only threats in 4-6A (Gautier has seriously regressed and were little better than air last night against Pascagoula). It's discouraging sitting thru game after game of opponents whose administration obviously has no expectation of winning and allows such a substandard level of coaching. And it's prevalent across the coast and throughout south MS.
