Bulldogs4
I heard on the radio earlier in the week that Tolu suffered an injury (hip/back) in practice about three weeks ago. It was not mentioned but his effectiveness had been dampened since then. Disappointing but give Michigan State credit. They shot the ball better than we did. Period. The other stats were 50-50, but in basketball if you can’t make shots you are going to lose. 50% from two/45% from three. State was 37% and 22% Therein lies the difference. Simple math. Still proud of the team. It was a good year. I think Jans maxed out as much as he could out this group.
Dawg83
Big offseason ahead for State. Got a lot of transfer portal work to do.
Insideradvantage
I'd talk some spit, but I don't believe my team will be playing at all today or tomorrow. Will be a very interesting off season and maybe they can both get in next year and last a while. It's much more interesting that way. Only happened three times since 2008. Too fun of a tourney for us to not at some point be of interest in it.
Bulldogs4
I think Jans will be fine in the portal. He has said numerous times he is not here to build a program but to build a team year to year. We have some promising pieces on the team that if they stay and then he can fill in the slots during the offseason, we will be good again next year. He is easily our best floor coach since CRW. Yeah Hubbard and Matthews are two good building blocks for next year, assuming they are back. Only two or three HS players committed for next year right now, zero JUCOs. Tolu, Bell, Jeffries, Davis are all gone for sure, You’ll have at least one or two transfer out, maybe more than that. There are some obvious candidates. So yeah, it’s going to be a very different looking group next year. In some cases it will hurt (I loved how Jeffries was playing at the end of the year), in other ways it may not be the worst thing. Bulldogs4
Murphy has the potential to be a superstar. With another year under belt, he could be really good next year. Jones is an excellent complementary player as well. We will see how it goes. Team will definitely have a new look though.

Dawg83
Disastrous day for the SEC. State and SC got killed, and now Kentucky just lost to 14 seed Oakland. Is that the end for Calipari? It very well might be.

I don't exactly feel sorry for him.
Bulldogs4
Samford got completely screwed out of a chance to beat Kansas… Clean block with 14 seconds left down one and would have had a five on four break going the other way. Instead a foul was called. Kansas then hung on for the win. Samford was down 22 and came all the way back. NCAA protected KS but somebody did not get the memo about KY. As someone who predicted a Samford win in my bracket I was definitely upset about that one. But I’m a homer that picked State to the Final Four so my bracket was only good for kindling by about 1 pm yesterday. Lol.

Additionally, they saddled Samford with a very dubious BenchTechnical Foul in the first half with little to no explanation. That two points ended up being very important. Samford had a really good team this year. I hope Gonzaga blows Kansas back to land of the Wizard of Oz. The favoritism there was so blatant it was pathetic. As I mentioned earlier, I thought Auburn had a legit gripe about getting a 4 seed. They no longer have a legit gripe. A&M has a decent lead at the half but Nebraska has a kid that can beat A&M if he gets hot. Bama tips off shortly.
Dawg83
A&M and Bama both won comfortably. So three SEC teams in the second round: Tennessee vs Texas Texas A&M vs Houston Bama vs St. Mary’s/Grand Canyon winner

Dawg83
SEC ends up with Tennessee and Bama in the Sweet 16. A&M gave Houston a heck of a game but came to just short. This is one of the more heavyweight-style Sweet 16’s I can remember in recent years. The only double digit seed still alive is NC State who is still a major conference school, and everyone else is a 6 seed or better. All the 1 and 2 seeds are still in it. David44
kudos to Alabama for advancing, but not sure it they recover from yesterday's Grand Canyon game. There is physical basketball, but that was violent and physical. The Refs literally could have called 100 fouls in the 2nd half, but it would have took 4 hours to finish. Every rebound there was a foul, every put back a foul, every attempted steal after a rebound, a foul.
rebmus
Lady Rebs took a whipping from ND, still a good season. Women's basketball is definitely different on the brackets/seeds. Only ONE lower seed advanced from the first round, and zero lower seeds have advanced in the second round (so far).
sportsmaniac10
Unfortunate end to the season, just didn’t show up to play in that first half and notre dame made us pay. Really thought this was gonna be a good game but coach yo’s team looked unprepared. Notre dame made us look silly on defense and our offense never got off the bus. can’t remember the last ncaa tournament game where I saw a team get so many easy layups. But that’s why they are the #2 seed. Even with just 6 players they were a class above us. interesting season overall, several things to be happy about but the thing that bothers me is that we really didn’t beat a single team that I would consider a signature win. Got a few wins over average SEC opponents but that’s it. Hopefully they solve that next year cause that’s the only next step for Yo. Start competing with the top 15-20. It can be done at Ole Miss just like Schaeffer did at State. have some good players returning next year. Expecting Coach Yo to grab 1-2 in the portal and a few solid freshmen coming so a lot to be optimistic about.
Bulldogs4
The State Women are a total mystery. Team should have been in the NCAAT. But lose home games to FL/KY to play ourselves out of the Tournament. Now playing just average teams, we have won two in a row and now play @ Penn State Thursday. Win that and we are in whatever the Final Four is for whatever Tournament we are playing in. Color me confused. Congrats to Ole Miss on a good season for the Ladies even if ended on a disappointing note. It is possible for Ole Miss or State to move up to the elite level of women’s basketball since we know has happened in the past. Whether that will happen with the current HC’s remains to be seen. Expecting Coach Yo to grab 1-2 in the portal and a few solid freshmen coming so a lot to be optimistic about. Notre Dame looked like they were scrimmaging against their second unit in that first half yesterday. We couldn't hit wide open shots and were one and done on way too many trips. And yeah, yeah, I know when you lose you tend to bitch about the officiating more, but man were we called for some ticky tack stuff while ND simply was not. At one point they had 10 FTs and we were sitting on none. One key moment came when the big girl for ND came down on the break and kicked to the wing for a three but not before she charged and it wasn't called. The three was made and after that the game never turned in our favor. And lastly, although it's obviously being kept on the down low, what happened to the team's only Mississippian Collins the last couple games? She just left the team during what should have been the most important stretch of her entire playing career. I can take a couple guesses, but I won't. sportsmaniac10
Coach Yo said Collins was “stepping back from the team to take some time for herself” but when asked if she’d come back for a 5th year she said “I don’t think that’s possible”. So read into that what you will but it seemed like there’s been some locker room drama for a while this season with Collins. Sat out a couple of games mid SEC due to “elbow soreness” and then missed the SEC tournament for no given reason. Very curious as to what exactly happened as she was still averaging 25 minutes per game in the games she played so don’t think it could be a playing time issue. Insideradvantage
The results speak for themselves with what Yo has done. She took over a dumpster fire that was nothing but ashes. Cracking into the next level will be a challenge, but she might have the personnel to do it if they can stay healthy and happy. Like I've said before, I can't imagine trying to run herd over a women's college basketball team and all the emotional ups and downs that's got to bring.
