This was a tough one for me to do this week after that come to Jesus moment I had driving home last Friday. I didn’t want to think about 5 A football for a few days .Too bad Wesley didn’t have a cure for our comatose offense.

Lot of movement this week.  I think I am going to do two more. One next Friday and one pre playoff and let that be a wrap.

I see region two has teams off next week. So they all get a off week before the playoffs start. ? Must be nice

Anyway here’s this week’s edition.

  1. Picayune- they continue to reel off the wins in easy fashion.  The buses should take Texas flat road and look at the wildlife on the way to the ritual sacrifice of a bearcat after dark . Matter of fact they could let Long Beach play against air for the first half and show up sometime in the third quarter and still coast to a win.

@ Long Beach.  Throw the dam towel. In the first quarter.

  2. Gautier- defense still giving up points. Last week to a ball control team.  You are going to visit the king of smash mouth next week. Can you go into the play offs mad or scratching your head about winning while not having to score forty points

Host PRC. Just play and try not to have any injuries. All hands on deck is looming

  3. West Point- It just seems like a formality at this point. They will glide into the playoffs

@ Saltillo. Call the next of kin now because the body may be unrecognizable after it’s finished.

  4. Vicksburg- They basically have wrapped up their region and have an eye towards the playoffs. They have won several big games and are deserving of this spot. Let’s just say it. They have a showdown coming with West Point.

Host Homes County. Homecoming for the Holmes coach to his old team. They could cause trouble for Vicksburg if they don’t take them serious.

  5. Hattiesburg- put themselves in the drivers seat for the region title with that skull dragging I had to witness last Friday. That big LBer they have is the best player in our region, offense or defense. Offense is not ready for prime time though.

@  West Jones, Barring rain I’m going to watch this Primo Ten matchup. I want to see how these two stack up against each other against each other. They could meet again.

  6.  West Jones - I almost put Laurel in this spot but that Florence wart is still squarely on them. West fumbled six time against Laurel. Is that an anomaly or a trend ?  They have little time to fix any problems because a big dog is headed their way.

Hosts Hattiesburg. This game speaks for itself. Pierson will have to open the playbook because Hattiesburg will stack to stop the run.

  7.  Laurel- it pains me to put these whirlwinds of hot air back in the rankings but that win against West made everyone sit up and take notice. Every year they  suck until the absolute moment they have to make a move then they’ll do it. Can they meet he same intensity going forward ? I think they are playing for their playoff lives. I don’t want to look it up.

@ Wayne County. Primo Ten matchup  .I think Laurel has the size advantage to grind us down if they stay with that big offensive line.

  8. East Central - could be a little higher really. They played the 1 and 2 teams respectable in losses. They are a low key tough team and could be a interesting matchup for those region 3 teams that can’t score a lot of points.

Hosts George County.  I know a lot of people in  Lucedale and won’t say anything disparaging right now they have been through a lot this season. It will be over soon.

 9. Wayne County - I was so depressed the other night leaving Hattiesburg. Tony Vance has our coaches jewels in a jar above his mantle. He grabbed them early and never let go. I had been hiding from the truth.  Two seasons in a row our offense disappears as the season goes on.  It’s right there for anyone to see. It’s been trending down the last few games. It may gain yards against the 220lb DTs early in the season but when you get to these three hundred pounders in the meat of the schedule our small offensive line gets ground up.  Asking them too play in a 12 x 12 box is what we are getting. Beat downs. That was abuse and demoralization the other night and I don’t know if our coaches can get our kids past it. Everything about them pre game said they didn’t think they were going to win. Are we on a repeat of last season ? Same old Same old isn’t going to cut it in this region.

Hosts Laurel. Another team that has our coaches number. I can say this. If we don’t score at least 28 points I think we will get run out of the stadium.

  10. Callaway- The one time loser divorcee kicked John Holmes County out of the club last Friday and is getting his swag back. Now he’s got a bottle of old spice and a 10k gold chain. He’s going back this Friday to put his foot down and let everyone know the man is back in town. It won’t be easy though.

Hosts Neshoba Central. Another one time loser back in play. Neshoba will be desperate. Is Callaway legit or just a product of being the king of the runts ?

Best thing going on this site.  Bravo.

Are you still in the corner of the Wayne coaching staff?

I am because our players are mostly in the right spot they are just getting overpowered by these bigger fronts. Our defense can hang with anyone and is only going to improve after this season. They are just getting worn down after being thrown out there time after time.  This is our staffs second round through these pine belt teams both home and away. There is enough for them to to see what it’s going to take.

I get why we are doing what we are doing right now, you can’t draw up new schemes in a week and expect it not to be a disaster. After this season though it’s time to look in the mirror and hold yourself to a standard.  We better step our game up. Barring injury our QB next season will have the best arm we have ever put on the field. It’s time time to make people defend the whole field again and not just a space the size of a dining room table.

yes indeed, very commendable once again.

Well, after the West Jones turnover parade at Laurel last week, that also included double digit false start/offside penalties, there is much trepidation in Soso

this week. I think there are only 2 possibilities for how the team responds:

1 - anger, some soul-searching, leading to a laser focused week of preparation, that may bring this group closer together as a team.

2- much of the same that we saw last week, as soon as any adversity strikes early in the game.

I think its pretty safe to say that this Hattiesburg defense will be even tougher than Laurel's, so if West is sleepwalking again in the 1st half and gets way behind

they will have no chance. With all the mistakes made last week, it's amazing they had the ball with a chance to tie/win at the end of that game.

Is the QB next season going to be the Bowles kid?

He’s the backup this season they have also moved a freshman QB up who is more of a run pass threat. Bowles is a Sophomore with good speed he’s been to the Manning’s camp a couple of times as well. Both kids are still developing so competition will be good for the starting spot.

Hearing WJ lost some of its offensive playmakers early in the game against Laurel, if so that is going to make it tough on WJ the next couple of weeks.

Slick- that “getting overpowered by these bigger fronts” is a real possibility again this week for WC, hope y’all pull out the W.

I think Hattiesburg finishes the season 2-0. If it does indeed rain I don't think West can stop our run game.

Not talking about HHS but other than one long run  WC contained the run. WC could not move the ball, turnover’s killed them one on the three yard line going into score and HHS had a punt return for a TD and a pick six. That being said Hattiesburg is really good on defense but on offense I didn’t see the vaunted running game you speak of.

I just think our run game is going to be better than West in that situation. Granted. I'm not bragging hard on Hattiesburg offense at all. If you want me to be honest, I'm disappointed. For weeks turnovers and pentalies have held the offense back from any momentem. But we have the pieces there. The passing game haven't even bloomed yet. Tristan Keyes will be a stud for Hattiesburg. Wade out for the season that's another element missing. With all that said I am extremely confident in Hattiesburg as a fan first and foremost.

As you should be always be proud of your kids that represent your community. Hattiesburg has some potential for sure but early injuries may still be holding them back a little. Offensive line and defensive front seven to me seems to be their strength. They also have a CB I think Boykin was his name I could be wrong but he’s very good.

I fully expect them to try the same thing they did last Friday again.  I think our defense will pull its weight. It’s our offense against the Laurel defense that will determine this games.Wayne County can’t have any turnovers early to put Laurel ahead. Laurel  is a totally different team when they have the lead than they are if they are trailing.

And how many times did they drop the football and it bounced right to another player of theirs? Not that I think it would have made that much difference.  That wasn’t what was stopping them having five people on our RB before he got the three steps to the line of scrimmage.

The young man obviously hasn’t been to SoSo as much as we have over the years.
It’s Halloween. At West Jones. Their offense doesn’t really have to do anything except hold on to the ball. How many of these games have we dropped where the only thing West did was on special teams and  defense ? The game will be won or lost in the Hattiesburg backfield. Hattiesburg is not really that much different than Wayne County in the regard Of not passing. There’s enough film out there now that if you load up and bring pressure, you probably are not going to get burnt through the air. Turnovers will decide this game.

Slick for us to have a shot the last two games we have to come out like we did against OG and finish. I know both Laurel and WJ both are very good with size and athletes all over the field. I have a hard time believing they are any better than OG was and we hung with them until the turnover bug hit us.

Apparently so. And rather quickly. Would love to have had some insights when things aren't pretty as a rainbow.

A win tomorrow night and especially if they win the Brown Jug, they will come back in droves. They are the prime example of fair weather fans. I am shocked they didnt come out this week after the win over WJ

As to the weather at Soso, right now it does not show any rain until 4am Saturday morning. I think we will be good there.

I agree with Slick that I think it will come down to turnovers / mistakes. I feel like these are 2 pretty evenly matched teams.

WJ may have an advantage in the passing game, but can't have the interceptions that happened last week at Laurel.

As bad as that game was, WJ still has everything right in front of them. Win the last 2 games guarantees a 1st round Home game.

and if Hattiesburg or WC beats Laurel, then WJ wins the region.

Definitely, then again to come out and possibly have to go back into the doghouse will be a bad look.

Surely have the advantage through the air. Our DB's need to be tested. My jury is still out on the back end and one on one coverage.

I keep wait for that team to show back up but they haven’t. We have been on a slide down offensively since Pascagoula. Something happened there, what it was I don’t know. But yes we are going to have to put out that kind of intensity to have a chance.

Oak Grove game seems like a long time ago now.

Where are those Laurel fans that was hot and heavy on here at the beginning of the season? I wish they would have hung around.

They ran away when they couldn’t talk down to people anymore. Look at their team, it’s all about running that mouth . It always has been. They don’t have confidence or they would be on here.
Nothing would make me happier than being the team that put the dagger in their season.

I meant to say 1st round home game, no one gets a bye.

Anyway, I believe all 4 teams, WC WJ Hattiesburg and Laurel, still have a shot at 1st place, with 2 games.

WJ - win out, needs Laurel to lose one

WC- win out, needs Hattiesburg to lose two

Laurel - win out, region champs

Hattiesburg - win out, region champs, could also lose to WJ, beat Laurel, but needs WC to beat WJ next week.

I don't think there are any scenarios that lead to a 3-way tie for 1st or 2nd place that would go to the tie breakers.
