PigskinPrognosticator
My takes from Petal: Petal will surprise some folks this year. Well coached and will improve. Several playmakers and big time athletes in back half of defense. Harrison Central is just meh. Hard to believe a school with that enrollment size can’t find a way to win consistently. Meridian is Meridian. Athletes galore but can they get out of their own way. Atterberry and Hill are a top RB duo in the state. Defense flew around and the DL control play for the most part. West Jones was very well coached as always. Don’t have the skill guys or OL of past years. Defense is always salty. Rase Jones will have a huge year at LB. Secondary is smallish but athletic. Seminary should be a playoff team in 3A. Several playmakers on offense. QB looked a little rattled at times. Defense is solid with good size. NE Jones has a chance to be a good team. Showed several playmakers out of the Wing T. Skill guys all look the part. DL was not great but back half of the defense all have big physical yet fast kids. will be a fun year in south MS. Everyone has to understand that the football season hasnt even begun yet. As for Enterprise's level of play; our QB was making his first start; he was hurt last year and didnt play all of last year so this was his first football in 2 years; it was just nerves and jitters on our guys part; coach Jimmerson will get it straightened out. We just need a few games.
ccbulldog
Meridian has no QB and zero imagination on offense so opponents will just stack the line and make it difficult for the very good RBs they do have. On defense they are big & athletic but again not well coached and a more complex offense will expose them. The same teams they had trouble with last year they will have trouble with this year. The coach there is sooo bad!
Drake
Enterprise definitely surprised me, didn’t look like the team I thought they were !!! And mental mistakes, 3 or 4 fumbles !

I thought there was some bright spots. Enterprise did sack SC QB and pick him off. Enterprise is not going to stay like this they will improve. JagsFan77
Warren Central 3 Madison Central 0. The line just didn't look good on either side of the ball for MC. I understand it was just one hand touch for the QBs but that was a lot of sacks. Lots of overthrown passes. Vic has to settle down, plant his feet, and follow through. He's got crazy potential. He's just got to find his groove. The defense also gave up more yards in the middle than we're used to seeing. A couple of Warren Central passes were just very well placed. Not much the defense could've done on that other than more QB pressure. MCs biggest asset is usually depth which doesn't usually come into play in a 2 quarter scrimmage. Special teams looked really good though. Zuluaga has gotten stronger. Barney is also out on that defensive line. He'll be a factor when he's back on the lineup. The coach there is sooo bad! Why do you say that Douglass is sooo bad? What specifics do you quantify that observation? He walked into a worse than dumpster fire situation. To his credit he has slowly built the program back to respectability. While I don’t think he is a great coach, he is a good coach. This appears to be the first year in a while that we actually have some depth and experience. Hopefully it will translate into a good season. We will see how the season unfolds. We will see how the season unfolds. my issue with him is he has no clue how to run a modern high school offense. I also question his ability to motivate the players. I agree he inherited a dumpster fire but I don't see Meridian doing any better than 3rd or 4th in the tough division. If Meridian wants to get back to contending for the division they are gonna have to bring in a top notch coach and pony up some money for a top level staff. Maybe they could coax Marcus Boyles out of retirement.

Again, qualify that assertion with something more than a blanket statement. And if Biloxi is so talented, why were they 3-7 last year and averaged less than twenty points per game while giving up an average of 33 points per game in losses. We were sharp and looked disciplined. We only had one putting unit where we lined up with 10 guys. Very hopeful moving forward with the season. Game speed will pick up and our team will find their groove

We'll just agree to disagree. I've seen them in person and I'm basing it off that. Have a great day

Uninspiring hires with Bobby Hall and Katlan French have only further stymied their growth and development in my opinion. They lost a 3 year starter at quarterback due to transfer and several other talented players (at skill positions and defense) so I definitely see where it is hard to picture them being good this season. Heck the most talented team Biloxi fielded in the past few years featured 3-4 D-1 players just on defense alone and they were the fourth seed in a not great coast region that year I believe. I also do not expect a ton out of George County defensively this year either. I have been told they are not great on that side of the ball and will rely on a great offense to win games.

At least you offered some substance to your post. And, yes, they have been a coaching turnstile for years (French will not survive another losing season). Likewise, they've hired some head-scratchers like Steve Jones and Bobbie Hall. But I've been watching a different Biloxi program over the years with exception of two years ago when they had a competent offense. K.K. Kendrick and Tim Jones are the only two notable gamebreakers they've had going back to Damion Fletcher who played over a decade and a half ago.
