any rumors where they going or staying in 4A?

According to October 2023 numbers they would be largest school in 3A. What they turned in vs last year no one knows. PCS will play a roll in that. Heard that Quitman turned in 3A numbers. I will say borderline until the numbers are posted.

The thing is this guy can the beat a Oak Grove or a Taylorsville or some one like that once a year. Yeah, but when they join the mix and play week in and week out against 4 or 5A schools they will struggle. When they get to the playoffs and have to win 4 games to get to the State championships the odds of that will greatly decrease. You realize the 6A private schools play one playoff game to qualify for the state championship. Both Prep and Hartfield are the smaller of the 2 big 4 with about 800 to 1000 in k-12 with an average of about 85 a grade. MRA and JA have 1300 + in the same grades so about 110 per grade. That would put them in the 3A to 4A range. You would not be able to do a multiplier because there are other private school already established in the MHSAA, and if you wanted the smaller ones to join after the MAIS folded they would not join.

All 4 in 3A but interesting thing what region they go to. The 4 and McLaurin, 1 or 2 to Region 3 in the Delta and the other 2 in Region 5 or 6, and a third option sending MRA to Region 3 along with the other 3 together. Let's see how the new reclassification numbers pan out and then look at it. It will take 350 to get to 4A.

There is no way Raleigh lost 18 students. Something is off with last years reported numbers or something. Or Raleigh underreported. I don’t think they lost that many students. I heard Tville gained, but I also heard they have lost.

MDE released the Accountability report for 2023-24 schools yesterday. Raleigh had a 5.6% drop out rate or 13 of 240 kids. Mize had a 7% drop out rate of 190 also 13 kids. So Mize added 8 back.

Having studied the MHSAA handbook, I have found nothing that says a school may play independent in any sport. I believe there has to be something on the form each school fills out for reclassification. It does say that a school can appeal in writing their classification. They can request to play in a certain region. Example would be Tylertown requesting to move back to R7 3A or Noxubee County moving back to R4 3A. Either way the Executive Committee has the final say. I do believe coaches and ADs now know what Class they be in in the future. We are most likely in the 5 days to appeal process. That will end this week.

Talked to member of the executive committee and he said that they won't get the numbers from MDE until around October 10, which is Thursday.

How do they certify the numbers for PCS, St Andrew's, etc when those numbers are not posted on MDE web site.

I’m hearing no movement from the Jones Co schools. Laurel nearly dipped to 4A.

NE is staying 4A makes me think some if not most turned in lower numbers than last year if not less than 2 years ago.

How did Raleigh go from 242 to 220-225 in one year?

Why Smith County keeps losing numbers

Chronic Absenteeism Report from MDE last year:

Mize.        137 students out of 837

Raleigh.     75 out of 626

Tville.       102 out of 491

Those kids will eventually drop out, home school, or go to Simpson/Sylva Bay.

I haven’t heard any smith county numbers “officially”. If Raleigh is at 224, I don’t know if that’s going to be 2A. Last time I think the cutoff was like 219. Scott central is going to be right there close too

Last 3A was 222 Perry Central

First 2A was 221 St Andrew's

2022 3A Bottom 5

Mantatchie 231

Wesson 227

East Webster 227

Enterprise Clarke 223

Perry Central 222

2022 2A Top 7

St Andrew's 221

Union 220

Water Valley 218

Charleston 215

Pisgah 214

Hatley 212

Raleigh 211

I agree and i am hearing a few south schools class 3A going to 2A and class 4A dropping to 3A . How will they fit all these teams in regions? I think Meridian next count will drop for sure.

Who is dropping down in both classes?

I was told last night the smallest 3A is 227. And that Raleigh missed 3A by 3 students. Obviously the Quitman 320-325 & PCS played a roll. Still 1 3A had to go up to replace Wingfield. I still believe Pisgah goes up due to population growth in NE Rankin County. I feel like Moss Point may drop to 3A. Then East Webster and Enterprise to 2A. Maybe Scott Central and St Andrew's goes up. I believe there will be changes to the current 2A R5/R6 make up.

Unofficial: I was told that Raleigh missed 3A by 3 students. If true the cutoff is at 227 if Raleigh turned in 224.

when will they release the new reclassification for 2025-2027?

Usually right before State Championships in December. In 2022 it was November 3rd day of small school playoffs starting. My guess is wait and see.
