No way should be they be where they are but yet there they are. Still playing ball and guaranteed no worse than tied for fifth in the nation when it is all said and done with a chance to be still even better. I was iffy on them for a while and their style is a little unconventional but you don’t finish second in the SEC and then go on to win a game in Omaha by accident. Dawg83
I don’t know how or when Oklahoma built a team with this much talent but they are really good. And not just in a “decent team got hot at the right time” kind of way, they have some legit pro prospects. Barring a late Notre Dame comeback the Sooners appear to be on their way to the catbird seat on that side of the bracket. I know Kendall Rogers was really high on them but they have definitely impressed me. If you’re a State fan looking for some encouragement, 3 of the 8 teams in Omaha had a losing record overall a year ago, OU being one of them. rebmus
Oklahoma sends Notre Dame to the loser's bracket, they're in very good shape to reach the finals now. A&M vs Notre Dame on that side of the bracket to stay alive.
Bulldogs4
Did not know much about Oklahoma but they are proving themselves pretty well so far.
Dawg83
Auburn eliminates Stanford, that’s frankly the most surprising result in Omaha to this point, at least in my opinion. Definitely feels like that side of the bracket is going to be an Ole Miss/Arkansas Ironman match. I tend to think those two end up playing each other three times, similar to State and Texas last year.
Dawg83
I am sure you Ole Miss fans will accuse me of trying to jinx it (who would do such a thing?…… Lol) but we appear to be headed straight for an Ole Miss vs Oklahoma title series. Arkansas’s pitching has kinda imploded tonight and I don’t see them having enough to beat OM twice in a row.

The key to beating OM all year was getting to their bullpen, but the starters have been able to give them a lot of innings. Oh and OM can hit from top to bottom.

Delucia and Elliot have sure stepped up in the postseason, as have the bats. I agree on the bullpen during the regular season, but they deserve credit also. If I'm not mistaken, the bullpen has given up 1 unearned run and 0 earned runs so far in the postseason. That's HUGE.
Bulldogs4
Well done tonight by Ole Miss. I am standing by my prediction. If they won their first two games then they are going to win it all. I believe it is going to happen.
rebmus
Auburn had to love tonight's game. Arkansas used 7 pitchers tonight, that leaves the bullpen pretty thin tomorrow. No offense to any Auburn or Arkansas fans, but I'm rooting for an 18 inning high scoring game between those two, burn many many arms. After 2 games, Ole Miss gets thin on the mound... we'll take all the help we can get.

You want to get 3 out of him anything more then that is a bonus. Then let the rested pen get to work.

I'm thankful the bullpen is rested and doing well in the postseason.
Wcchaingang
But honestly if OM get the production from the bottom of the line up it got tonight whoever is on the mound has to feel very confident.
Dawg83
I won’t be shocked if Auburn beats Arkansas today, which I’m guessing is what OM would prefer. A&M-Notre Dame should be a good game too. This third game is interesting for OM. If you can win one more without using Delucia then you are set up GREAT for the Finals. It gets a little hairier if you lose Wednesday and have to use Delucia on Thursday, but I guess he could probably pitch in a championship Game 3 if it goes that far, a la Will Bednar last year. I don’t think it mattered much in the grand scheme of things but DVH kinda made a boneheaded starting pitching decision last night and it escalated from there. Omaha isn’t the time to give a pitcher his second start of the season. Edited June 21, 2022 by Dawg83
Insideradvantage
The decision to start Morris by Van Horn was indeed a little weird, and I'm glad he did. We certainly got off on the right foot and there was no getting saved by the bell for Morris. Quote
Bulldogs4
Sometimes a coach outthinks himself. Go with what has brought you this far. Morris had pitched pretty well but he had only thrown 34 innings on the season with two starts. He had some other more seasoned pitchers available. But I am not sure it would have mattered. Ole Miss is just playing good baseball and I think they are going to continue to do so. Diamond is not going to shut anybody out but with the way Ole Miss is scoring, he will not have to. As long as he and the other pitchers keep the other team to five runs or less, OM will win that game. Will be interesting to see who stays alive today. I am favoring ND and Auburn but my opinion means zero. A&M seems to continue to win but I think that it will finally end for them today. Dawg83
Do you consider going ahead and throwing Delucia on Wednesday? I say that because I’m assuming if OM loses without him on Wednesday then he’ll for sure be throwing Thursday. I generally don’t like throwing your ace in this spot, because if you can win without using him again then you’re set up beautifully for the championship. I did not like how Cohen used Kendall Graveman in this same spot in 2013 and I do think it hurt State against UCLA. But I know there are some that say go ahead and throw your ace again now and you can for sure bring him back for Game 3 of the Finals. That was definitely Cohen’s plan, issue was State couldn’t get to a Game 3 of the Finals. It’s a bit of a calculated move either way. If I was Bianco, I’m throwing Gaddis or Diamond tomorrow and hoping you can win a slug fest. If not, you’ve always got your ace the next day. I just wouldn’t burn him before it’s absolutely necessary.

If you can get 2-3 from Diamond and maybe 2-3 from Gaddis and be in the game you hand the ball to Daugherty or Mallitz and finish it out. MSTSatchmo
It’s crazy that as recent as the SECT, Bianco was on his way out. Last team in the NCAAT and now he is one game from playing for the NC.
Dawg83
Are we going to have a close game in Omaha this year? Lol. No games decided by fewer than 4 runs in the first 8 games, and A&M currently up 5-0 in today’s first game. I thought it was weird last year when the championship series was nothing but blowouts, this is even weirder to me. Bulldogs4
A&M does it again. I give up there. I have been downing them all year and here they are in the final four. Shows you what I know. For Ole Miss, keep doing what you are doing. Throw Diamond and my gut feeling is he is going to have a good outing (throw 5-6 innings) and give up 2-3 runs and the hitting will carry them through to a victory. A&M - Oklahoma. The Aggie train might just do it. The odds are against them but they are more than capable. As one of you guys joked about; Hopefully this game tonight goes into extra innings and burns a bunch of pitching. Regardless who wins. Yep, a TON of Ole Miss fans were ready to move on from Bianco after the SECT- most thought there would be no NCAAT bid and zero chance of Omaha even IF Ole Miss snuck in. There's no way to know IF Carter would have fired Bianco if no NCAAT bid was extended, I lean towards 60% chance it would have happened... a lot depended on who showed interest in the job if Bianco was fired. So much can change in so little time. Today, Bianco has 0% chance of being fired (rightfully so). There's also a decent chance Bianco gets a pretty good offer after this CWS run ends and takes it. Whatever happens, happens... it's been a wild postseason ride so far. We'll see how far it goes.
rebmus
*Future SEC* (including Texas and Oklahoma) sent 6 of 8 teams to Omaha. 4 of the 5 left standing are current SEC teams and the other is a future SEC team. This conference is already strong AF, and only getting tougher.
