Peterson does not shy from contact out of the backfield, the offensive line looks much more polished, and the defense has looked much more fundamentally sound. If they can get last year's 3 wins again vs Long Beach, West Harrison, and Pearl River Central, plus find a way to get to 4 wins by defeating George County or East Central, they have the potential to get in as #4 and I would not be shocked to see a #3 but that's not as likely. 2020's EC loss was by two with an EC tackle on the 1 yard line as time expired and 2021 was a 7 point loss. Vancleave gets a home game vs EC this year for first time in 3 years. Can't wait to see how it all shakes out for sure. So is Vancleave a better football team without Bilbo? If so, things could get interesting very soon. And why does spell check think Vancleave is a misspelled word?

Vancleave has more positions performing at a higher level of play compared to 2022. My guess about the spell check is when it is used as a surname (from which the community name derived its name) it is spelled as Van Cleave. Only a guess.

What makes region 4 so interesting and unknown right now is you have Vancleave or Van Cleave (which is kosher with spell check) and West Harrison who would normally be on the outside looking in playing to where they could shake some things up. I realize region play hasn't started yet, but the playing feel seems fairly level with the exception of Picayune and abysmal looking PRC.

He looked pretty good out there. I watched the YouTube of the game and didn't see him get injured. Long story. He moved to Georgia during the offseason but returned to Pascagoula a few weeks ago. Apparently the district had done their due diligence in affirming his eligibility. I was told the Gautier coaching staff challenged his eligibility during the game in what amounted to a bluff and Pascagoula folded. I'm having a hard time getting my head around why 'Goula didn't call their bluff -- given both schools play within the same district and said district cleared his playing status with at the state level -- and continue playing him.

I saw some posts on social media about it and reached out to a friend I know in the area and I was told that Gautier AD made a phone call right before kick-off to certain MHSAA Director with big ties to Gautier who made the appropriate phone calls to get him ruled ineligible on the grounds of not meeting the 14 day acclimatization period. It appears the Pascagoula side capitulated too easily on the fly. There should've been a meeting between both ADs with a discussion over the clarification of the rule. I find it hard to believe the district -- which is usually extremely diligent in matters such as eligibility -- agreed to let a student play who wasn't qualified. Oh, and you're referring to the former AD of both schools, Greg Freeman I'm sure. He's at the state level now. I'm astonished he even knows the rules. Well, Mr. First Time Poster, if that's the case and Pascagoula bungled his eligibility status then shame on the administration for even playing him. Strike my previous post from the record. Looks like Gautier's gamesmanship made fools of Pascagoula. Didn't affect the outcome of the game in any case.
U Remember When
I have a couple of competing concepts in my head (twice the normal capacity). After watching the spread offense for roughly 20 years now, it seems those teams that have that particular qb, 2-3 really reliable receivers, and an o line that can handle a pin the ears back 9 man front for 3 seconds. Those teams can have success. If you're missing any one of those, the spread shuts down. I watched Moss Point fumble the first 3 shotgun snaps and then just sling a prayer down field a couple times vs. EC. Knew it was over at that point. Flipped over to Vancleave. They're getting back to the hit you in the mouth, stay ahead of the chains offense. Fant is getting back to hard nose football and they beat a pretty good hancock team and a Greene Co. that just beat George. The other concept is one man can't make a championship in football. Bilbo is an incredible athlete, but it just looks like instead of everyone waiting for the star to pull the wagon, everybody is contributing. Didn't mean to offend anybody with my observations about the spread. Again, it can be a lethal offense with the right kids. But not everybody has a Bray Hubbard.
Archer
Fant knows how to structure an offense as well as game-plan and adjust -- one of the few coaches in this area who knows what the heck he's doing. Ask Lewis Sims about his value. His record at Pascagoula was 48-17 with Fant and 28-43 since his departure.

I was told Pascagoula AD spoke to eligibility director at MHSAA earlier in the week and explained the situation and that person cleared him to play. It was not until Gautier AD made a few calls around kick off and brought it to MHSAA attention that he had not done his 14 days of acclimatization and MHSAA realized they made a mistake. This is all second hand information but would explain why he was allowed to suit up and play.
Tiburon
if mhsaa told Sims wrong, and then they realized this before game time (with the assist from Gautier AD) then they should have called Sims before the game. how did the kid end up playing part of the game? Arashatora
Can Peterson handle the workload they're putting on him though. He's not a big guy and has 85 carries in two games... On pace for 500 or more carries if they go anywhere in the playoffs.
Deonte3455
Florence is 3-0 this week, should we take notice? West Harrison & Vancleve 3-0, still winning to my suprise. Even with the schedule their playing it still counts for something.

I guess we’ll be able to tell after Florence eats their last cupcake this Friday night. After that will be the true litmus test, but you have to give credit where it’s due. Not everyone is 3-0 right now, so job well done by Florence taking care of business so far.
maroontide06
Hey @Vottand @Deonte3455, do y’all want to pick a different team to be a fan of this year? And that's not being a true supporter if I did. If you go back and watch the oak Grove game you will see they played hard. Of their 42 pts, 2tds came on busted coverages and the other was a 1 play 1yd run after an int to the goal line. Don't be shocked if HHS gets a win over Meridian this week. If not, I can still see them getting back to 4-4 before that brutal 3 game to close the regular season
