David
Tons of respect for defending state champs from OG. Ocean Springs coming in hot all year, especially on offense. How do the Greyhounds find a way to outscore the Warriors, and is there any way for either defense to shut down their opponents?

While O.G. obviously has the history, one of the best games was in ‘06 in the south state championship when O.G. completed 41 passes but only scored 13 points. The Greyhounds might have to bend but not break again. 63 just might be enough to win. Comparing averages, O.S. might be a little better on D. These are two evenly matched teams, at this time , this year.. Edited November 14, 2021 by David
Dubaction
We’ll see if OS is state title good or just coast football good. I haven’t bothered watching much of OS this year but I’ll be able to tell the difference pretty quickly. They have been a more consistent team than Oak Grove even if I don’t think they’ve played a tougher schedule week in and week out. But this stage of the year is old had for OG. While O.S. did play six eventual playoff teams, winning by about four touchdowns each time except for Clinton, I thought that Pearl would be that step up in competition that showed how they would play against a recent state champ. Then Pearl scored two plays into the game, and the stadium got quiet. But two plays after that, the Hounds scored, never trailed again, and blew them out by a bigger margin than anybody else beat em all year. So, I’m thinking at least O.S. can score with any defense they see. 45 points a game, no matter who you’re playing, is pretty good. Now, can they defend against Oak Grove’s high powered offense. We’re both waiting to see the answers to that question.

In reality you cant even compare common opponent games. OG and HHS are forever cross town rivalries and we played there y’all played at home. We played at Pearl and y’all played home. We could have beat Gulfport much worst but we ran clock and played extremely conservative in the 2nd half for good reason. That’s not even taking into account key injuries or sitting starters with decent leads. Throw these comparisons out the window… Brandon suffered a huge loss (RB) last game so this winner will be in a good place. For me, I believe our past playoff experience will make the difference in this one. Kabe has had and up and down year but he does have that experience with pressure situations. OG goes as far as he takes them. Should be a good one and I hope we get the ball last!

From a Hattiesburg guy who has seen them both play Ocean Springs definitely has the advantage when it comes to wide receiver vs dbs. Major advantage for OS for sure. OG is better on the O line and D line. Hubbard could possibly be having to throw on the run, but he's proven he can run as well. I will be at this one

Now, common opponents and how each team did against them doesn’t matter because one team didn’t try as hard. Guys, let’s just admit that we don’t know how these kids will show up on Friday night. But, don’t tell me that one doesn’t have a chance because of history, or last year, or cause living on the Coast means you can’t play football. If our QB and receivers and line play better, we’ll win. That’s the deep analysis right there.

Bulldogs4
What a nice treat for Ocean Springs. Win their first playoff game and then in the second round they have to face Oak Grove. Win that game and most likely you have a trip to Brandon. If you win these two games, then you will have earned a trip to Hattiesburg. Ocean Springs has a good team this year and credit is due them but now the real season starts and….. I will take OG to win this game. Until a coast team beats one of the top tier Region 3 teams then I will continue to favor those teams in the playoffs. I did see OG play against Meridian when we were at full strength. They broke open a close game in the second half. Lot of playmakers on that team and defense is solid too.
Dubaction
I did a little homework this morning. It’ll depend on what OG team shows up. If they’re on their A game on both sides of the ball I do think championship experience will prevail. But it’s also why I’m iffy about the game. If we come out slow and inconsistent like we have at times (Brandon, Meridian, Pearl games) it definitely won’t surprise me at all if OS wins. They have been solid all year and probably the best the coast has had to offer in quite some time.

Clever Clogs
I will say that OS has shocked a lot of ppl with this run .. Hats off to that coaching staff.. I think this will come down to QB play .. Kabe has definitely been inconsistent and Causey seems to panic sometimes under pressure.. However, the coast teams are the definition of inconsistent.. I think OG pulls it off in a high scoring game.

We’ve seen the leadership at O.G. for a couple of years now, and while Barnett has not been quite as good this year, you know that the bright lights won’t bother him. Talk to me about how much he runs the ball and how effective that’s been. On the other hand, Hubbard has put up possibly the most consistent performance in the state all year long. His offense is scoring over six TDs a game as his completion rate is up around 70%, and he averages almost a hundred per game rushing. I could see the QBs being equal, and the O.S. receivers are tall and catch well.Running back Humphries comes in at about 130 a game. As usual, it will come down to turnovers and defensive tackling. coastfootballfanman
I am going to go with Oak Grove in a game where both defenses are able to get a few stops. I see a 38-35 type of game. I will say that it would not surprise me one bit to see Ocean Springs win this thing. I just think playoff experience and depth will be a big factor in favor of Oak Grove. I will be in attendance for this one!

I've watched a few OG games and I've seen all of OS games. I think the two teams are very similar. I keep waiting for OS to have to play their starters all 4 quarters but really they haven't been tested late in a game other than the first game of the season against Clinton. No one has slowed this offense down yet but if anyone knows how to slow down a good offense, it may by OG who sees one everyday in practice. OG will be the best team OS has faced no doubt but I can't go against OS at home. I agree with the people above who've said the last team with the ball may win! I'll take OS at home in a shoot out!
