Louisville defense too soft to keep up with Houston next year

Houston got beat by Louisville twice with a combined score of 70-13… with Mr Football in 4A and an incredible RB. And word is that this Louisville team could be one of the best they’ve ever had.

10) Hattiesburg

The YellowJackets might be losing several but Starkville is still gonna Starkville. I'd have to put Oak Grove in there somewhere too. The outcomes of their season might not be the same as those listed but Oak Grove and Starkville could beat 5 through 10 on this list.

Even though they lost to both Starkville & Louisville and split with Clarksdale, I feel like West Point will fall somewhere in the top 10 in power rankings by season's end.  I guess I just don't understand the whole Laurel placement in this poll.  Could Laurel potentially win 5A South again?  Sure, but what good is that going to do for them?

West Point lost a lot but they are still West Point so the state championship goes through them.  Louisville returns a lot.

Laurel faces no real threat in 5A south unless Brookhaven or Wayne county pulls their heads out of their butt.  Or some random team like Florence suddenly has a dream season.  Right now I would have more faith in Brookhaven being the one to knock them off.  Having said that, Laurel lost a good deal from last year and maybe even will not be as good as last year.  5A south just really sucks.

Laurel, JDC, pass Christian, and hattiesburg not top10 teams.  Ocean springs questionable top 10 as well.  Not sold on Tupelo either. Louisville is top 3-4. West jones 4-6. Poplarville just behind west jones. Brandon, oak grove, Starkville, south pAnola, West Point should all be in top 10.

I just feel like we've read the book "The Impending Doom of Laurel" before.  It's like a record that gets put on repeat.  If Gautier makes the playoffs, it'll be even worse for them.

Dont sleep on Enterprise; almost beat JDC at their place and brings a lot back; Enterprise will be a sleeper in 3A.

Same old crying violin we are hearing again 5 months early. Everyone get your "POPCORN " ready and watch Enterprise take over the entire football WORLD....SMH !!!!!

I'll take a blind stab at it.....

  1. West Jones
  2. Starkville
  3. Louisville
  4. Brandon
  5. Oak Grove
  6. Picayune
  7. Tupelo
  8. Madison Central
  9. West Point
  10. South Panola

I also see Ocean Springs winning their region but not going deeper than 2nd round.

JDC will be good too

Definitely not a bad take here, but I honestly don't know if I would put Picayune that high just yet.  I think we'll be good, but I honestly don't know how things are going to shake out for us.  Maybe strength of schedule has something to do with it?  If so, I can maybe see your logic here.

I understand your sentiment. I see MC at the top of a few of these polls. I just don't see that we are there at the moment. Plus I'd rather have the target on someone else's back.

look up Rudy and Jay B on Facebook. They have recorded streams of all of laurels games from last year.  Listen to the comments and read the chat window. They went on a massive rant halftime of the stone county game I think it was. And their opinion was echoed by many. There have been a lot of Laurel fans unhappy with how things have gone the last 5-6 years. The only thing that calmed them was the run to state last year. But let’s be honest. Had last year’s 5A also included the teams that are now in 6A laurel would have at best been 5-5 4th seed playing at picayune round 1 of playoffs.  They may have missed playoffs entirely. That would have caused an implosion over there.  They are teetering on the edge of falling off like Wayne county has.

Laurel don’t rebuild they reload just been some questionable coaching, you know like everyone else know when Laurel is clicking they’re one on the most dangerous teams in the state year in year out! Majority of the team comes back this year

And that’s all fine and good, but I reckon being West Point’s sacrificial lamb isn’t dangerous at all.  It’s just part of the path that 5A South has to take.  Maybe Laurel can reclassify, but wait.  I don’t think that’s going to work very well.  Dropping to 4A or moving up to 6A wouldn’t make things better for Laurel.  Laurel is just stuck in an impossible situation.  There’s just nowhere to go even if Laurel is the favorite in 5A South, and there’s not a scenario that favors Laurel from 3A on up to 7A.

By returning most of the team you mean they return most of the numbers on the roster.  But I believe they lost 3-4 on o line, 3 on d line, lb, 2 wr and the qb. Granted they have a 2 deep of o and d linemen that are over 260. And I heard they will be starting a 9th grade qb next year.
