But I just figured if Kiffin was a definite no on the Alabama job, then something official would have been posted as a statement from him stating such. Just like how Lanning got a statement out today. Do you know Kiffin at all? lol.
MSTSatchmo
If I was a coach, I wouldn’t make a statement saying I was staying unless I had actually been offered. Rebmus mentioned Meyer. I game him one second of thought then remembered the Jacksonville debacle and I’m not talking about the play on the field. Lol.
MSTSatchmo
So about Norvell! Lol. Does the NCAA penalties make him more attractive or less attractive to Bama?

The article I saw didn't mention Norvell from a quick glance, seems like FSU and and OC Atkins are mentioned? The article I read may well not be accurate. This certainly adds fuel on the fire of Norvell getting the F out of FSU quickly either way. Norvell would also likely take the Bama job with an initial contract less than the others named... again, just to get out of FSU.

He hasn’t been mentioned from what I can see, but you have to wonder if an AD would think “can he handle the boosters”. You’re 100% right about the situation being a reason Norvell would want to get out of town. From the details I’ve read, I don’t see how this isn’t what happened with all collectives unless it’s just the fact the assistant coach took the player to the meeting. Isn’t that what collectives do? Meet a player and offer them $15k/month for his first year.

Just the NCAA putting FSU back in their "place" like the NCAA likes to do?

MSTSatchmo
Some of the same people reporting that we would see a hire named today, which obviously didn’t happen, are reporting that DeBoer is next up and he will likely take the job, BUT if he doesn’t Norvell is third on the list. I doubt these people know anymore than the rest of us on MST, but they’ll eventually get it right.
Dawg83
Yeah DeBoer has definitely had the most chatter to this point. Other than that Oregon TV station reporting that Lanning was in Tuscaloosa when he was really at home watching one of the Jason Bourne movies. Lol.
NoWammies
Crazy thought but what if all the candidates turn down the Bama job? Norvell just announced he’s staying at FSU.

With the playoffs expanding to 12, a lot of these guys probably believe the path to get there is easier where they are as well.
NoWammies
As far as Kiffin goes I think the chance is now at 0% with Saban sticking around and having a say so in things. He’s been there done that. He has 100% control at Ole Miss. No sense in going to Bama. Plus he’s been letting everyone know about the big recruiting weekend coming up in Oxford. If he hasn’t been offered, then he would have no choice but to keep recruiting hard and doing his job. I agree that Saban sticking around could be an issue, not just for Kiffin, but other coaches as well. I don’t buy the argument some are making about coaches not wanting to follow Saban. If they aren’t confident enough to think they’ll win then I wouldn’t think they should be considered anyway.
NoWammies
I agree Satch. Listened to a podcast yesterday that said if you’re scared to follow after Saban than that just shows you just wanna be average.
MSTSatchmo
I think Norvell announcing he’s staying means it’s pretty much a done deal DeBoer will end up at Bama. Norvell knew he wouldn’t get the call, so give it a positive spin and say you’re not leaving.
NoWammies
I’ve forgot to add happy retirement Coach Saban. As a Saints fan I would’ve never had a chance to celebrate a Super Bowl win had you not turned down Brees coming to the Dolphins.

The next coach at Bama is going to be skewered by the fans/alumni when (and it will be inevitable) he starts failing to win 11-12 games a year. If a coach has a good gig going at his present place, he would be a fool to jump in to the fire pit in Tuscaloosa. If that is being average so be it. Honestly, a NFL coach would be better suited for the Bama job now because he would have the ***** to tell the whiny fans/alumni/rich folks to **** off. The next coach at Bama will likely last 5 years or less. If all that says the guy is just average for not wanting to deal with it, I suspect they will all be okay with it. And their bank account will be flush regardless.
Unionman76
Norvell got new contract at fsu 8 years at $10 million a year
Dawg83
Sounds like Kalen DeBoer is the guy. Biggest question mark with him is can he recruit at a high level? Also never coached in the south before. But there’s no denying he is an excellent coach. 104-12 career record? Come on that’s just nuts. You don’t do that by accident. Also took Washington from 4-8 to national runner up in two years. As I expected, Byrne seems to have made a great hire (assuming this gets nailed down). NoWammies
He was a bad game away from Penix making him look like an average coach. We saw what Washington looked like when Penix was off. I love the hire. Did great at Sioux Falls though.
NoWammies
As an Ole Miss fan all we’ve heard is what would happen if all the close games that happened this year wouldn’t have gone that way and was reversed. Remind me again how many close games Washington had this year. Try only scoring 1 TD in the SEC like they did against ASU and see what happens. Unless you’re playing Arkansas. Again love the hire. It just evened the SEC playing field some.

Washington also had one of the most difficult schedules. Great hire for Bama. Now the question is who is brought it in at DC
