People are going to use this Georgia-FSU score as justification for FSU not making the Playoff. Don’t particularly feel like that’s fair. I realize people don’t like the player opt outs as excuses but when you’re talking 15-20 starters, it’s just not even the same team.

They had an opportunity to prove a point. Georgia had an argument that they were snubbed as well, did they quit and embarrass themselves? No.

Those who say it this was a “meaningless game”. It clearly wasn’t meaningless to Georgia. This is not how you handle adversity as a program. Absolutely embarrassing for FSU

Same thing happened to State two years ago when 10 starters quit and we were embarrassed by TT 34-7 in the Liberty Bowl.

I love having the bowl games but with the playoffs starting next year, I would look for the remaining bowls to be culled to about 15 or 20 at the most. At least that would knock down the number of teams playing to about 30-40 (outside the 12 playoff teams) lessens the impact of the players that quit.

To clarify, State did have a couple of opt outs in that Texas Tech game but the biggest issue was half the defense came down with COVID.

I do think the opt out thing is one of many issues that needs to get fixed ASAP. Schools are being totally disingenuous to their fans to expect them to buy bowl tickets while numerous key players are voluntarily sitting out.

Kirby Smart seemed to agree in his post game interview.  As far as the portal goes, I guess they could not allow players to enter the portal until after the NC game.  I’m not sure what could be done about the opt outs, although expanding the playoffs would keep 12 teams from having to deal with it.

My mistake…mind fails occasionally….i had forgotten about the COVID outbreak…

Thank you for the correction.

But the main point remains.

What are y'all's thoughts on this.

Bama wins tomorrow and wins the NC next weekend.  Saban calls it a career and goes out a winner.  I’m not saying Kiffin would be the top choice for Bama, but let’s say they offer Kiffin.  Does Kiffin leave the loaded team he has assembled for next year and stick with OM or does he take the job that has a loaded team every year?

National Championship games:

Michigan will come out swinging hard and may even grab a lead but I think Bama will eventually control the game. Not a blowout win but a solid W. Michigan leads 7-0 or maybe 10-0 early before Bama settles in and then come away with a 27-17 win.

I know everyone wants a rematch with AL-TX but I am pulling for our old State RB Dillon Johnson and the Washington Huskies. This has the makings of a very fun game to watch. Scoreboard should light up and I am taking the Huskies 40-38 in a great game.

In the other bowl games, if Tennessee simply wakes up from whatever hangover they have and scores more than 10 points they win. I mean they are playing Iowa, an even worse offensive team than State and that is saying a lot.

If LSU is focused, easy win,  but if they are hungover and sloppy then they could easily lose here. Whiskey will play hard and be fundamentally sound like Iowa but in reality this should be no contest.

Oregon really big over Liberty, Liberty, Liberty….Liberty.

My take is NO ONE WANTS TO BE DIRECTLY AFTER SABAN. In the current state of CFB, he might last 2-3 years or even one year.
Much better to be the second guy after Saban hangs it up.

Kiffin has hopefully learned from Mullen. Don’t leave your a year early when you got a chance to fly high. State 2018 could have been a very special year had he stayed one more year (and then left). So no Kiffin does not leave OM. He is smarter these days and money is no longer a factor. He will be the coach there in 2024.

Ray Perkins endured four difficult years after Bear retired before stepping down. Though he was tough as they come. That is a no man slot but obviously someone will do it to be the sacrificial lamb.

If Kiffin was offered the Bama job I don’t think he’d turn it down.

Do I think he’d be Bama’s top choice? Doubt it.

I continue to believe Dan Lanning is the next Bama head coach.

I find hard to believe LSU is just going to settle for Nussmeier at QB next year.

*Watch him throw for 350 and 5 TDs now*

Daniels was a different kind of player but Kelly’s history with QB’s is so-so. Jury is definitely still out on little Nuss.

LSU wins a good game. Tennessee is smoking Iowa. So looks like the SEC will finish 5-3 in the non-Playoff portion of things.

Oregon absolutely murdering Liberty. Can’t say I’m surprised, especially once Nix confirmed he was playing.

This is one thing I’m concerned you’ll see in the 12 team playoff. The G5 has gotten really watered down with teams like UCF, Cincy, Houston, SMU, etc. moving up to power conferences. Some years you may have a legitimately good G5 team, but I’m worried you’re going to something like UTSA at Georgia in a first round playoff game that ends 59-0.

The opt outs keep getting crazier. Nabors for LSU decides to play until he sets the LSU  receiving yardage record, then he quits.

Wonder if he will pull that stunt in the NFL?
How pathetic to quit the team in the middle of a game.
It won’t but if the NFL collectively said we are not drafting you until Round 4 if you quit your college team prematurely, that would stem a lot of this crap going on.

Does a NFL GM really trust a player who has QUIT his team?

Now they are saying that Kelley benched him on purpose after breaking the record.

What a crock.

Who believes that pile of Manure?

And if Kelley did just that, it was about as a dumb a coaching decision that I can remember.

Talk about throwing your player under the bus and opening yourself up to a canopy of criticism (especially if they had lost the game).

Yep

Not a good look for G5.

Was not expecting Liberty to win (though I did predict a blowout) but you would have thought they would have been a bit more competitive.
Tulane (even though they lost their bowl game) would have probably put a better fight.

I thought SMU deserved the NY6 spot myself. Liberty was undefeated but played zero P5 teams. Not even a Vandy or someone of that level.
