Was told he is not leaving on his own decision. Knowledgeable coach. Will land on his feet. Biloxi probably will go in for Stockstill I imagine.

Why would Biloxi do that?  They don't care about football there, so why would they want to waste their time with a competent, innovative, championship winning head football coach?  It's no different than when Breland went to South Jones.  If Biloxi is open all they need is a run-of-the-mill coach to come in.

While I do agree, they just let go of a coach who is coming off back to back winning seasons with playoff appearances. He made the playoffs 4 times there. I think them letting him go, could be a sign of “possibly” going in and investing in football.

It's 2023 (soon to be 2024).  Football has been around for a long, long time.  Are they just now getting an e-mail address with the interwebs to go along with it?  Have they been using a fax machine and a Ron Polk typewriter this whole time or what?

I cannot say for sure my friend, but for them to make this move, surely it signals something positive.

Biloxi had a few decent skilled players but overall they were not much more talented than St. Martin.

That's a great assessment and he still made 3 seed Don't know whose decision this was but not a fan of it. French was a good coach and a good man for that program.

They've got money and resources, but the one thing they lack and this is the most important of all is culture.  That's where they need to make the most improvement and unfortunately that won't happen overnight.

21 years ago, following consecutive 1-10, 0-11, and 1-9 seasons, the Ocean Springs community having had enough of being a colossal embarrassment, rallied and demanded accountability and higher expectations.  2 years later they reached the state title game.  They've had 3 losing seasons since (and sent that coach packing for diminishing results later in his tenure).

It's obvious there was a similar sentiment (probably by a smaller contingent) in Gulfport after another mediocre finish in 2022 -- they would never have poached another highly successful coach if not.

Perhaps Biloxi wants to prioritize football in a way it hasn't in more than 50 years.

You know its a tough job if Bobby Hall got tired of it and just quit after 3yrs.

Color me surprised. I know we defeated Biloxi handily early in the season but they were well coached and IMO were a pretty solid squad. As Dub and some the others mentioned, the coast schools have great potential to be really good in football.

Meridian-Biloxi had a great Big 8 rivalry for decades (1930’s-1980). Had some great games particularly in the 1960’s and 1970’s. So it can be done there.

It’s possible that making that commitment enabled O.S. to at least get closer to competitive on the state stage. Certain long time administrators and boosters were pushed aside, and facilities improved. Biloxi would have to commit to less basketball and more athletes for football. I’m not sure the majority are willing to do that. They could have just done that while keeping a quality young man like French. Maybe, just maybe, some schools are not meant to be successful in football. It’s a shame. Some good folks are hoping for the best.

French ranks #5 on Biloxi's all time winningest coaches from 1899-present. SMH

I could be reading too far into this, but I believe they already have their guy and this has been in the works for a little while now. You do not fire a coach who’s gotten as much out of this program, if not more than any other coach the past 20+ years for no reason unless you have the guy you want lined up. Yesterday, I was told a name to keep an eye on is a coach at the collegiate level that is a Biloxi alumni. Heard this from an admin within the district. So there may be some smoke to this. Sean Murphy who is currently at Nicholls State. I will believe it when I see it obviously but that was who I was told they were possibly going after.

Why should a highly successful sport like basketball be sacrificed and reduce itself to mediocre just so football can be more successful?
