Starting Kopps was very good through 8 innings. Bringing him out in the 9th with ~118 pitches was just crazy.

Congrats to NC State for advancing past Arkansas. Kudos Wcchaingang, you called the upset.

After Friday I was starting to doubt it. But this is kinda the way I thought it would go. He would bring Kopps in and lean on him to much.

Credit to ND. They whipped our butts today but our team is resilient. I think we will bounce back tomorrow. Harding is typically not a starter so I wonder who will start since Fristoe has struggled down the stretch. I know it sounds crazy but might we see Cerantola tomorrow in some form or fashion?

Sometimes the worse thing that can happen is for a team to blow out a team like Arky did NC State on Friday. It is hard to follow up scoring 21 runs. NC State earned it.

Omaha is never ever ever a sure thing. If it wasn’t obvious before, it is now. If Arkansas was going to lose eventually, this is exactly how I envisioned it playing out. Way too dependent on Kopps late in the year and their bats cooled off at the worst possible time.

Called State/ND going to three games from the jump. ND is an impressive team, State will have to play really well to win tomorrow.

OM’s lack of pitching depth seems to have come full circle. I’m sure the Hoglund injury will always be a big “what-if” but there were issues even before that happened.

I’m sure Bianco’s continued postseason woes will be mentioned lots over the next few days. I think this Arizona team was simply just a bad matchup for OM. These guys can absolutely destroy the baseball.

I agree with all of that.

MAYBE things would be different with a healthy Hoglund (and a healthy Elko also). At the same time, every team has injuries. Gosh knows I mentioned all year the pitching isn't that deep and the hitting isn't consistent.

Bianco has made 1 trip to Omaha in 21 years at Ole Miss. That's a long standing proven trend. I don't mean that as disrespect to Bianco, Ole Miss should name the field after him or build a statue... the history before Bianco is much worse unless we go back to 1970 and before.

The rumors of LSU hiring Bianco are still flying around, I find it very hard to believe that LSU would hire him. LSU would have fired Bianco before he ever got to his first (and only) CWS in year 14.

Texas and Arizona punched their tickets to Omaha tonight.

Two tickets left to punch tomorrow.

After being so strong all year and also sending 6 teams to Super Regionals, the SEC has 2 teams in Omaha with a chance of a third. Many expected 4, including me.

Arkansas not getting there is one of the bigger shocks in college baseball in recent years. Florida laying a colossal egg like they did was also a huge surprise, thought they had Omaha potential for sure. Not really shocked that OM and SC fell short, I always thought both had some pretty evident flaws. We’ll see what happens with State tomorrow, you’re talking about a team with a real Jekyll and Hyde complex sometimes.

Vandy and Tennessee are very much national title contenders in Omaha. Perhaps the two favorites with Arkansas out of the mix. If you made me pick the title series today, I think I would go Stanford vs. Tennessee regardless of what happens in the two Supers tomorrow.

The biggest question tonite for me wasn't starting broadway, that is totally fine with about a 50 pitch limit.  But following him with 2 guys who are both also RH pitchers and who are so similar in spin rate and movement. And then there will always be the "what if" on whether he should have put graham on 1B and Pumlee in the OF after Elko was injured. Another good year, especially when one looks at all the injuries.

And I think Bianco is in Oxford til he reaches the 25 year mark for state retirement collection purposes.

Would make sense. There does seem to be more chatter linking him to LSU than I expected. Would be fascinated to see if that is actually in play.

Tough way for Ole Miss to lose but still a lot of credit to the team for persevering through a difficult year.

Bianco is only 4 years away from MS state retirement (which in his case would be a sweet amount). As I have mentioned, I think LSU would be the only place he would leave for.

ND appears to be the better team but that does not always equate to a victory in a given game.

For State this afternoon, we need someone to step up and start and give us 3 innings of solid pitching, then Harding for 4 innings and Sims for 2 innings. That will be the formula. ND is going to score runs but we cannot have BB’s/HBP’s. Those are killers. Just throw strikes (sounds easy but I know it is hard).

The two huge other keys are clean defense (which we did not have last night) and timely hitting (the most important of all along with pitching).

The weather is supposed to great this evening (hot, sunny and then a clear evening). I think that works to our advantage.
