rebmus
MSU remains in the winner's bracket with a 2-1 win. TWENTY ONE strikeouts between Bednar and Sims.
Bulldogs4
WOW what a finish. UT with the tying run on third and winning run at first and Sims gets a grounder to second to end the game. 21K’s by our pitching staff. Just incredible. Experience was crucial tonight. Had this been our first rodeo in Omaha I have no doubt that we choke this game away in the ninth. But that experience and quiet confidence carried the team through when things got tense there at the end.
Dawg83
Heck of a game. All time clutch pitching performance by Will Bednar. And breaking news from Oxford, Bianco is getting an extension and staying put. So there’s that.
pancho
There is something to be said about that state retirement check for Bianco.
MSTSatchmo
Great job finishing the game out, and even better that State can get a win after such a classic performance from Bednar.
Bulldogs4
I think you see what happened to Arizona pretty often in the CWS. When a team loses an extra inning heartbreaker especially late in the evening they seem to play flat in the next game. Stanford put absolute whooping on their conference rival this afternoon to live another day. Will Vandy start the end of the Cinderella run by NCSTATE tonight? rebmus
NC State beats Vandy 1-0 to stay in the winner's bracket. NC State is proving the doubters (raises hand) wrong.
Dawg83
NC State is dang good. They may be the favorite to win it all at this point. Rolling through LA Tech, Arkansas, Stanford, and Vandy like they have is an incredible run. State-Virginia tomorrow, just a massive game all around. I think it’s one State has to win to have any realistic chance of winning a title. Both teams are starting guys that are excellent when they are on their game but both have had pretty big consistency issues. I do like State’s chances and think they are the better team, but UVA is one of those streaky teams that can make you wonder how the heck you lost to them if you aren’t careful. MSTSatchmo
Great game last night. To me, it seemed like the strike zone for Leiter kept getting bigger, while the zone for Highfill was getting smaller. I know there were some strikes called against NC State that were chest high. Bulldogs4
Tennessee is melting down in the 4th inning though it is a long way to go. 7-4 and they are still batting. I do think the runner was out at home a while ago but it was not enough evidence to overturn it. Had they called him out it would have stood as well. Very close play. Tough break for Tennessee. Dawg83
Texas sends the Vols home. Great season for Tennessee, now I guess we will see if they hang on to their coach. Texas will get the State/Virginia loser on Thursday.
rebmus
Virginia takes a 1-0 lead after 1 complete.
rebmus
4-0 Virginia still batting in the bottom of the 2nd. McLeod is out. Not the start MSU needed.
Dawg83
This McGarry guy was terrible the entire regular season and has suddenly become Roger Clemens in the postseason. Crazy. State has not hit well in Omaha, period. Obviously facing some great pitching but midway thru this game they’ve been scoreless in 12 of 13 innings they’ve played this week. Bad night for pitching so far but doesn’t matter if you provide zero run support.

Crazy. That’s absolutely nuts. You never know. Barring a huge comeback, you’ll have the two teams not seeded with no losses.
rebmus
MSU finally got a hit of McGarry and made it count.. a 2 run HR after a walk.
rebmus
5-4 MSU and still batting in the 8th.
Bulldogs4
McGarry was unhittable except for one pitch. Baseball is weird game . Momentum can change in matter a few minutes. Let’s Go Dawgs!!! Let’s finish this out.
rebmus
6-5 MSU after 8 complete.
rebmus
Sims closes it out, MSU stays in the winner's bracket. Well played game by both teams.
MSTSatchmo
Two classics by State. Clutch performances by some of the regular guys and some others out of the pen along with Clark’s HR.
Bulldogs4
Bullpen is the player (s) of the game. Kept the score at 4-0 until we could finally get the bats going. Boy if you are Virginia, you gotta be shaking your head. Guy throws a no hitter for seven innings and then one pitch changes the whole momentum of the game. Dawg83
That’s an all time classic game for State. Up there with the ‘99 Auburn football game and the ‘04 Alabama basketball game in terms of totally shocking comebacks in games with major stakes. The two home runs were obviously massive and will get all the publicity, but State’s bullpen had their game of the season tonight. And it wasn’t just one or two guys, it was a bunch of them, including some that hadn’t pitched in forever. Also thought Josh Hatcher’s infield hit was massive to keep the rally going after the bases had been cleared on the first homer. Talking about a guy that has had a brutal year and he came up with a very clutch at-bat in the most important game of the year.
Bulldogs4
Agree with you. Bullpen was great. Particularly the DP in the second inning when they had the bases loaded with one out. That was huge. Also, Hatcher with the base hit after the year he has had was definitely big. I hope on Friday we can get 5 innings out of Harding and then have the BP throw the 6th and 7th innings. Sims is much better for one or two innings. Provided of course that we are able to have a lead in the game at that juncture. I have said before that the experience of being in Omaha before is such a important piece of this. Last night was a good example of that. rebmus
I feel like almost everyone outside of Nashville is rooting for Stanford tonight, simply because it will mean the whistler will be done for the year. 5-4 Stanford in the 8th.
