Meridian 52

Petal 33

Final

So right now region 3 7A looks like this:

1. Brandon

2. OG

3. Meridian

4. Petal

Meridian and Brandon meet next week. If Meridian can upset Brandon, that would shift OG into the top spot, move Meridian to #2 and push Brandon all the way down to #3. Call me crazy, but it could happen. Even if not, nobody is gonna want to see Meridian in playoffs!

I watched meridian vs og in which a game meridian should’ve won. If im picking an underdog out of all classes to get to Starkville, its those wildcats

Are the 10 unsportsmanlike penalties “tight defense” too. I call that undisciplined.

The unsportsmanlike i can agree on. But all those holding calls on both sides you gotta keep that flag in the pocket on some plays and let both teams get in a flow

Yeah lotta flags. Congrats on the win. Your QB was really accurate in the 1st half. Our game plan on offense was garbage in the 1st half. Hope to see yall again in 4 weeks.

Our offense was garbage because their d line was faster off the ball than our o line.  Right side o line been giving up pressure all year.  Hattiesburg’s d line tore it apart.

wests d backs are terrible. D line has good moments but mostly it’s sub par.  Hattiesburg’s offensive game plan was great in the first half.  Had west not forced the fumble and recovered, then had the pick later in first half, I have no doubt Hattiesburg drives and scores those 2 possessions.

West starting rb had 5 or 6 carries for 0 yards in first half.  He did not see the field but 1 play in 2nd half.  He had less than 10 carries last week.  He did not play in 3 games earlier in season due to ankle injury.  I was just told his mom taking him to the hospital.

Tootie passed concussion tests on sidelines but coaches decided not to bring him back in out of safety reasons.

I would sit out next week. As of now looks like WJ will host Pearl River Central in Round 1

I agree on the WJ o-line. We came out with a game plan to throw it downfield. But takes time for those routes to be ran and Lindsey had no time. We changed at half to shorter slant routes and quicker throws. Why couldn’t we do that in the 2nd QTR? it was obvious we couldn’t block them and we never tried to run the ball to slow the rush down.

We had plan to run it some.  But piersons offense passes to open the run. Coaches saw very quickly that it was not going to be possible against that d line. Especially not with #10 still hobbled with nagging ankle issue.

Having watched that livestream, Meridian definitely should not have won that game. In fact, OG should’ve had at least 1 more TD than the scoreboard showed after the ref made the crazy call in the endzone and nullified the pass reception with a minute left.

It was clear the refs got tired of hearing Vance’s bellyaching on the sidelines in the 2nd half and quit calling things on Meridian just to hush the crybaby and keep him from running on the field & getting in their faces after every play.

No doubt Meridian is better than their norm. But not necessarily an overall team improvement - it’s all Hill. Just like in 2023 with his older brother when Meridian went into playoffs as the R3 #4 seed. Went down to R4 #1 seed Ocean Springs and beat them, then went to OG in round 2 and lost. But R3 is generally & historically better than R4 anyway top to bottom. We’ll see if this year is an exception like last year was. It had been nearly a decade since someone other than Brandon or OG went to the ship from the South up until then

That “td” came late in the 4th. Prior to that, Meridian stalled out on 2 straight drives. OG was not the better team that night, meridian playcalling was questionable

4. Petal

That means potential playoff matchups as follows
Ocean Springs @ Brandon

St Martin @ OG

Meridian @ D'Iberville

Petal @ Gulfport

Top 2 are pretty much a given Region 3 win although St Martin might make it interesting if OG over looks them.

The way Meridian is playing lately it'll take every bit of the D'ville QB's magic to carry them to the next round.  Haven't seen Meridian but the D'ville QB is a special athlete and exciting to watch.

The Petal vs Gulfport rematch will be the most interesting matchup.  Can we see history repeat itself?  Petal squeaked out a gutsy win due to far too many Admiral mistakes the first game.  Can they travel to Gulfport and do it again?  Last year the win over Petal was the first in a string of 40 point wins on the way to the school's first MHSAA state championship.
