Greyhoundtransplant
20 hours ago, Rebel Bert said: Yes with all 7 classes being 32 and extras dropping to 1A. Changes will happen to 1A after losing 10 schools or so either way. My guess is 4 football schools per region with the 10 non football schools added to make it work or go back to 4 regions in football. I don't see going back to 6 classes. So then playoffs would stay the same or revert to the old way? If more consolidations hit they aren't going to have much of a choice than to rethink the model. Rebel Bert
My updated and adjusted numbers for 2027 that includes Leake Central(5A), Leflore Central(6A), North Tippah(3A) looks like: 7A 24 schools 6A 24 schools 5A 24 schools 4A 40 schools 3A 40 schools 38 football schools 2A 40 schools 1A 42 schools 32 football schools with 6 team regions in north Ms to accommodate 2 non football schools per region and 2 regions in the south with a non football region. There are currently 9 non football schools in NE Mississippi. The 100 dollar question is what do you do when 1A gets low enough that you end up with 4 regions of 3 football and 2 non football schools in each region. Those non football need to play football or else but that's my opinion. You certainly can't drop to 2 and 2. You can't drop much further without dropping 7A, 6A, and 5A to 20 schools or dropping 4A, 3A, and 2A, down to 32 schools each. Especially if your going to stay at 7 classes. I won't be surprised if they 8 classes at like 32 or 24 each. It will be a long Friday drive from the coast to Mendenhall or Bay Springs, etc for a region game with 7 region opponents. I totally understand that situation. And the only solution is to put them in a region where 4 out 6 will have to travel farther for 1A Badketball Region games or have the county with 3 or 4 1A schools to consolidate. Rebel Bert
Executive Council has passed going forward 7A/6A/5A Regions can have no more than 7 schools per region and no fewer than 5 schools per region. This will be at discretion of the Executive Director for Reclassification. Me personally this probably will help schools like Oxford and Tupelo where Region 1 7A will be 7 schools and Region 2 will be 5 schools.
