Vott
HUGE game for both teams. Loser definitely goes on the road in the playoffs while the winner probably gets the no.2 spot depending on how NW Rankin keeps playing. I say OG gets the win. They dont lose consecutive home games very often
Dubaction
Weird year for OG. One week they have everyone healthy and/or not suspended and look like a 7a front runner. The next week they’re starting freshman and sophomores on defense and look average. I think they’re a notch better than Brandon when both play their A game but it’s a very inconsistent group this year.
ogwarriorbandman
True Dub… 7A South is like a box of chocolates in both regions! Ocean Springs and Petal are the favorites no doubt about it. The playoffs will be very interesting this year.

But that’s a tough one to really compare at this point because R4’s competition and schedules just aren’t what R3’s are. You’ve got Brandon and OG playing Starkville, Germantown, Clay-Chalkville and the like while R4 teams didn’t opt for tough out of region matchups. Replace those games on Brandon and OG’s schedule with teams like R4 scheduled and suddenly OG and Brandon are both 1 loss teams. So until these schools go head-to-head in playoffs, I’m not ready to state that OSHS and Gulfport are better than any of the R3 powerhouses. They may be - but I don’t think they’ve proven it yet. You can also ask this question as well: Are the teams in Region 4 (top to bottom) better than the teams in Region 2 (top to bottom)? You might say, "Well that's trying to compare a North region with a South region, and why would you do that?" Simply because to be the best, you have to beat the best. If the teams in Region 4 had to play the teams in Region 2 week in and week out, it may not be so pretty.

R3 schools in Rankin County are playing Madison Central, Clinton, Ridgeland, and Florence. Then they play Tupelo, Starkville, etc. Days of playing JPS are apparently over. If the teams in Region 4 had to play the teams in Region 2 week in and week out, it may not be so pretty. I won’t categorically disagree - but remember none of that matters on the front end because MS is a North State/South State playoff bracket. So this is really about R1 vs R2 and R3 vs R4 up until the championship game each year. Personally, I believe regions 2 & 3 are - year in and year out - the stronger regions all around. And the championship results have tended to bear that out more often than not in recent years (with the exception of Tupelo and Oxford switching back and forth between R1 and R2). So for Brandon, Starkville, Germantown, Clinton and OG to all voluntarily play each other really speaks to their desire to play the best & not just schedule cupcakes in their non-district matchups. They beat up on each other before region play ever starts and their records may look more rough on the overall because of it - but it makes them all better teams in the long run. It definitely can make them better provided they don't lose starters to the pounding of those schedules wear and tear

And that seems to be where OG has struggled. I heard someone say on OG’s livestream that the game they played last week was the first one all season in which they had all starters on the field and healthy. That’s wild! It’s October! So that definitely may explain the vastly different performances we’ve seen out of that team so far this year. Answers a lot of questions I had about them for sure. The Brandon announcers did not make any similar comments (that I heard) about losing multiple starters to injury during their livestream. Doesn’t mean they haven’t - but it wasn’t mentioned (I definitely could’ve missed it since I had more than 1 livestream going simultaneously). I still have major questions about that team and Pogue’s ability to lead them. They’ll make playoffs. But as a 3 seed, most likely. It’ll definitely be R4’s chance get in there and prove something. Dubaction
Actually as far as I can tell… the Neville game was the first and only full strength game OG had played. They still were without a starting safety against Meridian (#6) Apparently Brandon has a bunch of skill guys going both ways. They dont have a lot of quality depth there. I know college and NFL coaches make changes in mid season, I just find it hard that Pogue would walk out on his team in the middle of the year or that the Brandon A.D. would want to make a change in the middle of the year as well. Merlin
Unless some big money booster club people are mad about the struggling and realized how he bombed his one year in Columbia and it hit that he was going to fail in Brandon as well. So they pushed for early removal to try to correct course before they are too far off track. Edited October 21, 2025 by Merlin

They will still probably make the playoffs but this season has turned into a disaster for Brandon.
maroontide06
Apparently Eugene Clinton is the interim HC for the time being. This is definitely an interesting turn of events for sure.

Football In MS
This is wild stuff. Especially OG week. Mid-season for a 1st year coach is unheard of without a scandal to explain it. Those Bulldog Boosters must have some major bank! Interested to hear the details as they come
