Open Dates.

Quite a few teams have an open date either this week or next week before region play starts. Do you like the open date between non region and region play?

Yes you’re usually pretty banged up after a hard non region schedule. The open date gives you a chance to kind of get healthy and refocus

Don't know.  Picayune usually has a full season.  I remember when the season started earlier, Dodd would usually have the open date week 1.  Picayune can probably use it though.

Had ours before the Tupelo game. It was much needed cause we had played 3 physical games with Louisville, Starkville, and Noxubee

I totally understand 5A thru 7A having an open date. 1A thru 4A will be losing gate money much needed for future expenses. No way Hazlehurst should only be playing 8 games. Put every class in 4 Regions x 8 schools. Then everyone gets an open date. You will have to put 24 schools spread out over 7 or 8 classes in 2A thru 4A. That week off might help some with injuries.

It is one of those things that you do not know if it will hurt or help you. By the time you get to that off week, will you need it? Will you be playing well and it hurt your momentum? or will you need it to help with injuries. It is one of those things you have to take a chance with. I have seen where some big schools take it week one and some take it later on.

Boy I wish we had an open date. We had multiple players out last week and still have some out this week, and probably will have some out next week as well.

Having 4 regions x 10 schools with an open date could help 4A thru 2 A.

I would not want to play 9 region games. That would knock out some rivalry games that have been played for years.

4 teams per region still make the playoffs,  the other 6 are finished or bowl games if we had them still.

That's why I prefer 8 regions of 6 each for the smaller schools. 6 classes is enough.

Hell we are already too small for 7 classes. 8 is going to really water things down

I agree and I was even cool with 6 but wasn't a fan of it. Truly hate 7 even with the advantage on our side of things

I'd be willing to compromise and go back to 6 classifications just like it was.  I just don't see the point of 7 classifications for a state like Mississippi.  Makes no sense whatsoever.

I agree but we know that they will not drop it back down because of the money it brings to them

Maybe Mr Neaves and the underlings will simply allow all teams to go the post season.
