With spring training right around the corner, who is playing where?

As far as I know they do for public school. I cannot speak on private school.

It is the beginning of March, what head coaching jobs are still open? Are there some that have not been mentioned lately or some jobs that are flying under the radar?

Then you are not a competitor. That game is to showcase the top high school athletes of both states and a chance for them to compete with and against each other.

Jack Wright is not leaving Gulf Coast for a high school job. He is at one of the top JUCO programs in the state and has had plenty of success. I doubt he would want to leave the coast for Jackson area anyway.

Vance is an excellent choice for Meridian. He will be able to rally kids and put together a team on the field that the community will be proud of.

I am reading all these comments and it is apparent, according to this thread, that the opinion on the hire was to "steady a ship." Why pull someone out of retirement when there are plenty of proven coaches at lower level schools that could raise this program in the next few years, if not sooner?

Not a lot of people believed me when I said Mize would beat Wesson, but here we are!

I honestly would not consider this an upset. Mize has a very solid team. Wesson played arguable the biggest cupcake schedule in the state. Mize winning is not an upset.

So you are saying that everyone should get a piece of the same pie? I disagree. Not everyone should make the playoffs. That would make the regular season pointless. Your argument is, "Well what about seeding?" Who cares at that point everyone is in the playoffs. Teams that struggle to win should not get a piece from the same pie that teams who are really good get from.

It is one of those things that you do not know if it will hurt or help you. By the time you get to that off week, will you need it? Will you be playing well and it hurt your momentum? or will you need it to help with injuries. It is one of those things you have to take a chance with. I have seen where some big schools take it week one and some take it later on.

You hit nail on the head @NoWammies. Everything gets put into perspective when you are humbled for one reason or another.

With quite a few new head coaching hires during the off season, some staffs are still trying to get the ball rolling with their teams. As far as surprises, the way Magee has struggled, after some having picked them to win it all in 3A, is surprising.

There is not much to say in South 2A outside of Heidleberg. Bay Springs maybe, and hat is a big maybe. Mize will show some fight now that they have a new look and can stretch the field some. Scott Central would probably round out the group.

The cockiness is heavy with saying this. You must not watch football enough. Teams that are supposed to win big get beat all the time. You have to play the game, and with a young team, as you stated, there is no telling what will happen.

If everyone was gauged off how they played in the jamboree, there would be a lot more discussion of who the favorite is in every classification. A jamboree give coaches a semi-accurate reading of where their team is and puts those players, who coaches think can play on, film going into week one.

Some of those scores are as delusional as your expectations for this football season.
