Bulldogs4
Both Diamond teams win on the road. State with a 2-1 pitchers duel over Oklahoma. Whereas Ole Miss out slugged Missouri 9-6. State needs to win at least two . Ole Miss needs to win all three since it is Missouri and even though it is on the road, OM is much the better team. Dawg83
A lot of unknowns about State still, but the one thing becoming apparent is that Pico is a legit ace.
Bulldogs4
Got hammered early today with porous defense. I think four errors in two innings. Pitching may be a bit suspect but that kind of defense is inexcusable. Down 10-5 and only in the third inning.
Dawg83
State lost a weird game yesterday. Down 7-0 early, came back to take the lead in the 7th, lost it in the last two innings. Rubber game today. OM going for the sweep in CoMo today.

Dawg83
State drops the series and will travel to Baton Rouge sitting at 1-5. Seems… not great.

Why did we screw around and win on Friday? It totally tarnished the perfection we had going. If we’re gonna suck, then we need to suck 100% of the time. Don’t take breaks and don’t cause hiccups. Embrace being bad at baseball and run with it. At least you would be excelling in something at that point. Winning is beginning to look like an accident unfortunately.
Dawg83
The only thing that might save Lemonis is that the SEC schedule allows State to dodge some of the top teams this year (Tennessee, Arkansas, Georgia). It is starting to feel inevitable though. If this team misses the NCAAT for the third time in four years, yeah there’s no scenario where you could bring him back. He’s been given a long leash and I don’t have an issue with that, but everyone has a point where you’re just out of leash. Even if they get it together enough to make the tournament, I mean is it enough just to make it in as the 2 or 3 seed in Corvallis or wherever the heck they’d send you? For a program with the resources and history that State has in the last 5-10 years alone, I’d argue that just making the tournament probably is not enough. coastfootballfanman
If State is not hosting a regional, send Lemonis packing. No need to run it back. Zero excuse with the facilities, money, support, and history at Mississippi State to be as bad as they have been. Hosting should be the low bar for a program like State. No excuse to not be in the top 15 or so in the country year in and year out.
pancho
how many SEC schools hosted regionals last year, maybe 6 or 7? he look doubtful currently to finish anywhere better than 12th or so and that will be with some luck.

It's pretty much a lock there will be a Tallahassee regional regardless of how good or bad Florida State is.

I mean they had like a 40 year steak of 40+ wins under Mike Martin so they definitely earned 99.9% of those. Dawg83
Also “if State doesn’t host”…. They are 15-9, hosting is going to require an extraordinary finish. They are much closer to missing the NCAAT than they are to hosting at the moment.
Bulldogs4
At this point we are not making the Tournament. Ironically we have actually had more success in Red Stick over the recent years against LSU than we have had at home. But I will be surprised if we win one game this weekend. Like we said about basketball, at some point results on the court speak for themselves. And right now on the field we are not good in baseball. We are 3-9 against teams with a pulse. That will not cut it.
Dawg83
State won the series in BR two years ago and it’s probably the most shocking SEC series result I can ever remember. That was one of the worst State teams ever and they won a road series against the eventual national champs. All that to say nothing would surprise me after that…. But most likely LSU wins two. maroontide06
So Pico will stay on Friday. They'll start Siary today and Ligon on Saturday. It's still an uphill climb regardless.
Bulldogs4
Lemonis alluded to that Monday that he would keep the pitching rotation for Friday/Saturday the same. We will see what happens. Gotta clean up a lot of little things to even give ourselves a chance to win. And my confidence in us doing that is almost nil.
Bulldogs4
Another normal game for State. Close but no cigar. Same ole same ole in conference play.

I realize no lead against LSU is a comfortable lead, but you had a 4 run lead against them. If it's not the hitting that costs State the ballgame, it's the pitching. A good baseball team would have been able to seal the deal last night.
Bulldogs4
4 walks in one inning is a good formula for a loss. Baseball is a nine inning game. 8 good innings will get cancelled out by one poor inning.
Dawg83
Just seems like State finds ways to lose these last few years. That game followed the same script as so many before it, take a lead into the middle innings and then implode.
