What are we thinking about Hunter Hines at this point?

He needs to sit a few games and try to get it out of his head. He has had some big games for us over the years but struggled for the most part last year and has been putrid this year. Can't hit the breaking ball and almost refuses to hit the ball to the opposite field. Throw him hard away and mix in good breaking balls and he is a very easy out. Should have been PH for his last time up the other night.

Did not realize how bad Rice has gotten. They havent finished a season with a winning record since 2017. What happened to that program?

Wayne Graham was the entire program. 100% of the NCAAT appearances in their history came under one coach.

He was a great coach and they won a NC under his tutelage. And were consistently a good regional bet year in and year out.

One of the greatest comebacks ever for State came in the College Station Regional in 1998.

State was facing elimination and was down 11-0 to Rice. Would have been easy to fold but the team battled back to win 15-14. Eventually went on to win the Regional and go to the CWS.

I would suspect that game stuck in Coach Graham’s craw for a while. I mean what are the chances of a really good team blowing an 11-0 in baseball? Small, smaller and almost zero.

Ironically, that is the only game we had played against Rice before yesterday.

Awful weekend for State baseball. Losing two out of three gives us four OOC losses already. Hosting a Regional is just about out of the picture already. Even making a Regional may be a stretch at this point. Unless things turn North in a fast hurry. USM Tuesday is a must win. Period.
Like I mentioned in the basketball thread. Playing a strong schedule is great but you still have to win games.
Pressure is on to WIN. And win the next game.

USM wins game 2 an 3 @ TCU to win the series an salvage a 2 an 2 week. Considering that both losses were on the road against top 25 teams, they should stay ranked #22. Bunch of doubles today an 5 HR last 2 days. They bludgeoned TCU pitching.

Hard to figure out this State team. Score zero runs against USM two weeks ago. Tonight score three TD’s alas missed all the XP’s though.

USM scratched for a FG in both games and came out 1-1.
Not bad for them at all.
Have no clue about State.
But glad for the win.

the difference was who pitched for usm in each game, or who didn't pitch. usm's mid week arms didn't fare well last week in oxford either.  all this proved is that state can hit borderline juco pitching and there won't be any of that in the SEC.

Baseball is a long season. A lot of it is like they say in MLB, you ae going to win and lose 50 games no matter what you do, it's what you do in the other 62. Same here, You are most likely going to win 10-12 and lose 10-12, but what do you do in the other 15. Right now when  State gets good pitching they win. Got to find two more guys for Saturday and Sunday. I don't think it's Ligon and Simmons are the answer.

Well I did not want to create a new topic but State’s softball team started conference play with a three game sweep over Auburn. So a good start for the Diamond Lady Dogs.
Ole Miss with a solid 2 of a 3 over R-Can-Saw.

A good weekend for our Women teams.
And again with OK now in the fold, the SEC is loaded in softball just like baseball and basketball.

Give credit where credit is due. Texas with two big hits in the 7th and the left fielder saved the game with a great catch in the bottom of the 7th. Otherwise State played a solid game today.
Disappointing loss but not disappointed in our players. They played well.
