FanofMSfootball
I didn’t see a topic about this but Starkville SD hired Jay Hopson as their Athletic Director. Will he be coaching football as well?

hasbeen67
Sounds like a pretty big name to come in as a high school AD and not coach.
Prince of Darkness
Starkville has hired John Carr as Head Football Coach https://www.starkvilledailynews.com/sports/carr-takes-the-keys-of-starkville-high-school-football-program/article_3e37d964-e7c8-11ef-a04b-f3748be14e4a.html Edited February 10, 2025 by Prince of Darkness
Football In MS
How many schools/districts currently have “AD only” positions where that person does not coach/teach anything?

Fully expect Hopson to have a hands on approach with coaching. Probably not the supplement but he’s a ball coach.

Greyhoundtransplant
All of the 7A schools on the coast and most of the 5A/6A are setup that way. Would've loved to have an experienced AD hired, instead of someone's buddy that had never even been a head coach.

TigersFan
Many of your larger school districts and classifications have A.D.-only positions. With the Mississippi High School Activities Association keyword activities! Many of these large districts and schools can have up to 20 to 25 sports and activities that students can participate in. Some districts tie these jobs into other jobs as well but it is becoming more and more common.
doyouevencoachbro
There are a couple of smaller schools where someone like Assistant Principals, Transportation Director, or the Tech Director are also the Athletic Director.
