CalPreps doesn't do rankings for 8-man

The person or persons who did this poll should be given an atta boy.  If there is one i would question, it would be gautier at no.2 in 5a. Other than that,  i cant argue with it at all.

Looks like region 5 4 gonna be tough according to this.

Ain’t no way Stone and Gautier will be better than y’all.  This poll is a complete joke and I’ll gladly eat my crow if I’m wrong.  But yes you’re right Region 4-5A is a gauntlet but it’s a gauntlet Wayne County can get through.  Y’all held your own against Meridian in the spring game and low and behold, they’re in the top 10 in 7A.  You’ve got this Maroon Tide fan believing in the War Eagles and yes I’m putting my eggs in one basket because I don’t need another one.  It would just go to Jacob’s Well if I had another basket.

I would put Hartfield at # 2 or maybe # 1 in MAIS 6A; several D-1 players and a probable 2025 Dandy Dozen and they almost beat Jacksom Prep in the title game.

1. Jackson Prep played and beat MRA in the title game

2. You would also put Enterprise at #1 in 3A

so...

3. Your opinion might be considered rather questionable

I think alot of those players graduated. It will be interesting to see if they can compete for the 3rd spot.

Prep beat Hartfield twice last year at Hartfield. Prep will be just as talented this year, if not better.

Hartfield has a lot of D1-level players - Womack in the secondary, Jones at LB, Jeslowski at RB, West at WR, the o-lineman, and a pair of defensive tackles. But Hartfield's QB situation is very questionable.

Overall, the team talent is pretty even. Defensively, Prep has a more talented secondary. But Hartfield is more talented at linebacker and d-line. Offensively, Prep has a more talented QB and a more talented overall receiving core. O-Line is probably a wash, but if I had to choose, I'd say Prep has a slight edge there. RB slightly favors Hartfield. Coaching weighs pretty heavily in Prep's favor.

Obviously, health can dramatically change things for both teams. Assuming both teams are healthy, Hartfield has more players with D1-level talent, but Prep is the better high school football team. FWIW, Prep pounded Hartfield in the Mississippi State 7v7 camp a month ago and played with a depleted roster.

Choctaw County and Kossuth

Agreed. We will get a early chance to see just how dominant Winona will be or if they’ll be challenged in the north Sept. 15 when they travel to Ackerman to take on Choctaw County in non district action. They will be battle tested by time district play starts with arguably the hardest nondistrict schedule in 3A that consist of a ranked 6A Grenada, gritty teams like Kosciusko, Senatobia and Charleston plus Choctaw County that I mentioned.

I mean yes I get your bullish view on us coming into this season but Gautier handled our offense in the playoffs. Our defense played well enough to stay in the game but the offense got slapped around plain and simple. So until WC lines up and beats them I will give them the nod over us. Even with losing their  QB..

Looks like I will have to revise when I start my poll with so few region games now.

I completely understand where you are coming from Slick.  I guess I just want Wayne County to be the one to keep the 5A South streak going.  The opportunity is there for Wayne County and I hope they take advantage of it.

I can't see how Winona doesn't win it all.  They are absolutely loaded.

I was there and this is pretty much correct. People don’t realize what three lost seasons of kids pretty much doing what they wanted hurt. They worked out if they wanted, they had no discipline on the field…. Hankins had bring that back and our kids are bigger, stronger and faster. We have to make adjustments agreed but this will not be last years team. I see improvements on both sides of the ball plus we made a home run coaching hire don’t overlook that.
