Are players allowed to follow coaches who move from school to local school?

They thing is this though, it is the same things the kids see now on tv and social media. They all have twitter and if you follow any of that it is nothing but kid posting about jumping in the transfer portal. If you would have said that word to me in high school I would have thought you were talking about some kind of Sci Fi movie. This wont stop it will only get worse!

OS administration is the only one that can file a formal complaint. But we all know they are not gonna do that because how do you think he got to OS in the first place.

I'm not sure that is accurate.  I think an admin from any school can file a formal complaint.  For example, I believe teams in their district can file a complaint even if their school is not directly involved.

You are correct. It can come from another school but the complaint has to come from a school's principal.

Loyalty? Man this is high school football. That kid probably hasn’t even been at YOUR school for a full year. Sounds like he’s more loyal to the coach than he is whatever school he decides to attend. Again a lot of this sounds silly when kids move in and out of schools every year and you have benefited from it in similar fashion.

So, mercenaries in high school ball? If a family decides that their kid will be better off at another location, that’s on them. If a coach can actually move from place to place, bringing his crew of players with him to the system with the highest bid, it’s a screwed up deal. If those schools in the Metro or Pine Belt don’t choose to fight against a mercenary coach, fine. But don’t blame the school who sees themselves being lied to for standing up. I don’t care if the only thing that happens is that the coach’s tactics are exposed, at least I’ve done something. My program has never benefited from this type of recruiting practices. And don’t feel so sorry for this kid. He, his representatives, and especially his coach were all aware of the rules, and decided that nobody would stand against them. We’ll, maybe it’s time somebody does.

Why can't he take his recruits with him.  He brought them to OS.  Come on man, no one has any sympathy for OS.  They have been stealing players from neighboring schools for years.

So the recruiting that your program has done for the past 3 years under him was okay, but him going to Gulfport and then coming after the OS kids is not? Both are wrong and illegal at the end of the day. David I understand why you are upset, but you cannot be naïve enough to think one is perfectly fine and the other is not. Coaches on your current staff have reached out to kids in Jackson county to recruit them to OS. You are okay with that? Because in my opinion, it is the same as what Pennock is doing except it is happening TO your program not FOR your program.

The state of recruiting in high school athletics both public and private is a sad state of affairs. Especially when coaches openly embrace it like the coach below…

Rossville Christian is a program from Tennessee correct? I have always wondered why non-Mississippi teams are allowed to compete in the MAIS

Midsouth Association of
   Independent Schools

They were sneaky in how they changed their name.  It went from Mississippi Private School Association, to Mississippi Association of Independent Schools, to Midsouth Association of Independent Schools.  The acronyms and web address was able to remain the same when they made the last change.

Fellas, by saying OS vs another school, or oh its was ok then but is not now, or alluding to the attitude of "OS deserves this" we are taking ourselves away from the problem this post was initialing addressing.  When is someone going to be held accountable or have they ever been held accountable?  I am not naive to the fact that it hurts worse when this activity from a coach happens and it negatively impacts a program you are passionate about but, want to try to find gray area when it helps, as that is human nature. (Please keep in mind we are just recently involved in the program so I do not know of any wrong doing before). I do know that this is a blatant violation, and it is elevated by being thrown in the players and coaches face. (Exhibit 1 attached)Picture1.png.6bd45149b11a09564e3a68ae4150af27.png

Yeah, maybe a little naive in thinking that there’s a big difference in accepting kids who transfer in to your district as their parents decide it’s better for their education and playing time, compared to a coach who walks the halls with a kid, talking about school spirit and commitment, while talking the whole time about leaving with him at the end of the season. There’s a reason it’s banned in the rule book. There is a difference, and that’s the original purpose of this post. If nobody else wants this to be forbidden, then change the rules. As long as it’s against the rules, don’t lecture me about complaining about the low level of ethics. I would be calling this out no matter who it had happened to. If anybody can cite this having happened before, I’m listening. It’s a unique and, in my opinion, an escalation of the rule breaking. I’ve said that all along. I just want to hear somebody say that this is wrong without talking about what somebody else might have done in the past.

Funny how you mask the blatant illegal recruiting tactics that OS has employed over the years as “if a parent moves their kid into another district because it’s better for their education”. That is where I have to draw the line. OS has broken the rules of illegally recruiting players. You can spin it how you want but anyone who is not a Greyhound die hard homer knows how hypocritical you are acting over this. Illegally recruiting players no matter how it happens is wrong. 6 months ago you would not have batted an eye, but now, with Pennock gone, OS people want to try and play victim. Give us a break man. I respect you as a poster on here, but you do not have leg to stand on in this situation given the dirty tactics Pennock AND current staff members on OS have employed over the last 3 year and Ross and company before that. You think Casey Cain wasn’t upset over having a player recruited away? Ocean Springs is getting a taste of its own medicine.

“Illegally  recruiting players”? Yet, no rules violations brought forward by anyone. No state sanctions. Only rumored actions that break no established rules. Actions that are admittedly done on a daily basis by half of the teams in the state. But a coach openly commits a violation of an actual rule, knowing that people won’t call him on it, and you won’t condemn it because of what someone  might have done  in the past. I’m not sure just who’s playing the victim here. I also respect your common sense posts on here in the past, but you  not leading off by saying that this is worse than what’s happened in the past reduces your argument. We might be headed towards this becoming a personal issue, and in case that’s my fault, I’ll concede your points. I can’t say that I’m not speaking out of emotions towards the kids that I love, so I’m out. You get last word.

David, I condemn both. I said in an earlier post it is wrong what Pennock and Green are doing. The MHSAA NEEDS to step in! I hope OS calls them on it at the state office. This coming from an Admiral alum! My point is the fact that OS fans, not just you, but others on social media as well are acting as if they should be the biggest victims of all in the situation and I just view it as hypocritical. Sure, nobody has went to the MHSAA about it with OS, but that does not mean it is not happening and I know as connected as you are in the community, you have heard or know some of what has gone on. As far as kids transferring out, som coaches have the philosophy of the kid does not want to be here, then let him go. Which is probably the case and why nothing has been said on it at OS or any other school. I hope Pennock get burned on this. I hope it puts a target on him and the program because it is long past due for this behavior to be dealt with. You are a true fan and I know it is frustrating.
