With Coach Pennock headed to Gulfport, what are some names that would be a good fit at OS?

Maybe some of the other coast coaches that just had a big year? High from Gautier, Feaster from stone. Might not be a bad idea to move up to a bigger school while their stock is high.

Either would be a disastrous hire.

High will regress to his mean post Kaden Irving and Feaster is wholly unremarkable.

I don't think there is anyone else on the coast with the resume to get it, aside from Picayune and Poplarville's coaches, but they would be crazy to leave in my opinion. Not sure if there is anyone in the pine belt or Jackson area that wants to get to the coast but that would be my guess as to where the coach comes from.

With this being a first class program, with facilities better than most on the Coast, and with talent in the pipeline after a little drop off season next year, I’d think that they could attract one of the premier school’s offensive coordinators to come down from Jackson area or the Pine Belt. It would help to have experience at another larger school where handling larger rosters and syncing the jr hi coaching is expected. I don’t have names, and with the AD also being gone, along with a lame duck superintendent, it’s a tough hire for O.S.  Let me also say that I’m anxious to see if Pennock can actually win without a Mr. Football running his team. Seems a little cheesy to grab the money right after losing his racehorse, but I hate to sound bitter. Money talks, I guess.

There is no reason for anyone to be bitter about it. It's a personal decision that he thought would be best for him and his family. If I was making 95,000 and had a chance to make 120,000 I'd leave my place of employment on the spot and tell my new employer I'll be there tomorrow. Lol

Probably not, and I certainly agree on the money side of things, but we’ve seen this before at the college level, and it just seems seedier to bail out on high school kids just as your racehorse is graduating. I’ll make a more mature statement that doesn’t sound bitter once he makes his own statement to his players and to the community that has supported his team so well. As for now, I’m only hoping that next year’s game is conducted with mutual respect, especially from the staff that is also leaving their teenagers wondering what happened. Life lesson for them, I guess.

They're not going to limit this search to half of the state of Mississippi.

Ocean Springs needs to go get one of those Alabama coaches.  I don't have any idea who that would be, but they've definitely got some good coaches over there and Ocean Springs is a great landing spot.

If the scuttlebutt is true about the Theodore coach being interested in retiring from Alabama and double-dipping then he'd be one of my first calls.

I would be on the phone to Germantown. Russell Mitchell would be perfect for Ocean Springs. He would win and win consistently.

He does seem to be an up and coming offensive minded coach who would be a great hire for this spot in O.S.  I’d sound hypocritical after criticizing the last coach for leaving, to now encourage hiring a replacement who has only been in his position for one year. I guess if money talks, then let’s at least consider stealing somebody else’s guy. Good for the goose…

Someone who is part of the Dodd Lee player/coaching tree.  Can't hurt for sure.

I wouldn’t be too surprised at an Alabama coach. Apparently there are several of their ADs interested in doing the same thing so some connections could help.

The grass is not greener most of the time old man.

Some people have a problem with lying to themselves about why they have that fire in the belly I guess. I know I wouldn’t be on his bandwagon anymore. Plus going to a school right up the street who wil be playing against you every season ?

It's true that's its not always greener. And he may regret this decision in a couple years. Fans have a right to be disappointed he's leaving, but shouldn't be mad about it. Slick, old man?, lol. I'm probably not much older than you.

I have heard the OC that came with Pennock to OS wants to stay and take over.  However, with them being in a bind with no Superintendent or AD, nobody really knows who is making the decisions.

Everybody has said that he’s going to Gulfport with Pennock. Now, being offered the head job in the place where he has installed his system could be enough to make him stay. The personnel coming back on offense will be talented, but might require a tweak to what kind of offense they run. Specifically, they will have a great, fast QB who obviously won’t throw the ball as well as Hubbard, but with a really good RB and a stout defense, they might go to a more ball control system. Does that mean they look to hire a head coach with that in mind? I don’t know.

Having said that, I would think the school system might go outside the box and retain an AD specifically qualified to search for the new head coach, even if that means getting a temporary AD with connections statewide and the power to bring in one of the best coaches available. Not sure who that would be, but I have thoughts.
