Dawg83
That’s gonna be a rough one to get over for Penn State people. Totally dominated the first half. Had a 7 point lead with under 5 minutes left. Got the ball back in a tie game with a chance to win it with under a minute to go, and threw a really bad INT and lost instead. ND will probably be an underdog against either of Texas or Ohio State. But they’ve come a long way since losing to a MAC team right before State lost to a MAC team. Bulldogs4
ND gets disparaged here in the South because they are a National brand and somewhat because of anti-Catholic bias. But this team just finds ways to win. They will be heavy underdogs to either TX/OSU as you note. I would not touch that game with a thirty-nine & half foot pole (with regard to a possible wager). Also, Penn State really has no excuse. They should have had a three score lead at half instead of 7 points. You have to take advantage of your opportunities. Then as you noted, they totally blew it in the final minute. And again ND did not necessarily play anywhere close to their best game and still found a way to win. pancho
I think Coach Freeman has it figured out and could care less about the espn race bait issue. If he thought like many other coaches he wouldn't have the number of white players starting or much less even on the team. He is so much better than Brian Kelly.
hasbeen67
I also thought this has to make you wonder about Brian Kelly. Maybe the excuses he gave for not winning bigger weren't valid. Maybe it's, at least in part, him and it's continuing at LSU.
pancho
Just me kinda thinking outside the box here but if Deboer flounders at Bama, how much would they offer Freeman to be the guy?
Bulldogs4
Well who screwed the pooch worse? PSU or TX? I thought PSU could not be topped but TX not only topped it, they did it royally. We’ll all I can say is Go Irish!!!

Bulldogs4
Ball is at the one yard line. Why is the QB not under center? When you are in the shotgun, you are already giving up 4 yards of field position, then you pitch the ball back to the RB. Now he is 8 yards from the goal line. That is insane. QB sneak on one. Hut. Hut. Color me completely clueless on this philosophy by football coaches when you have one yard or less to gain.

pancho
yes he is. I think he'd do well at Bama if he wants that type challenge but he' still young. I kinda suspect Bama would look hard at Kiffin if Deboer is let go after the 25 season.
Bulldogs4
and the season ended with a thud. I know this is radical but why not cut the regular season down to 10 games. No conference championship games. Institute a 64 team playoff (call it November or December madness). 2025 - Season starts August 30 and finishes November 8. Each team gets one open date. Playoffs start November 22nd and continue November 29, December 6, 13, 20. First three rounds hosted on campus by the highest seed. The final eight would be at neutral sites. Final Four on January 1st and the Championship game January 9th. Talk about over the top excitement similar to basketball in March. By playing only ten games the teams would be fresh and ready for the playoffs.

Unionman76
How much did Ohio state pay for Judkins someone posted that Ohio state had $20 million for nil for football
pancho
they did reportedly pay 20-22 mill for the team . no idea what judkins received but he evidently learned to check his attitude at the door and be team first. Bulldogs4
The NIL has created an interesting phenomenon. Teams like Ohio State loaded up on mercenary players and won a Natty. But I have a really good friend who lives in Columbus, Ohio and is a graduate of OSU. He is mad about losing four straight to Michigan and is not all that excited about winning Monday. In fact he told me he turned off the TV at the end of the game and did not watch or listen to any post game festivities.
pancho
they went from death threats on the HC to winning the natty and many still don't like him. omg Edited January 22, 2025 by pancho

As good as Ohio State was, that shows how unpredictable rivalry games can be.

While what I stated is true but I suspect over time the NC will take a higher precedence over the loss to Michigan for my ole friend. Ironically it was that loss that really spurred the Ohio State team in the playoffs to make that run. Had they won that game they may have been more likely to have lost in the playoffs. And yes rivalry games are very unpredictable and in a one game atmosphere anything can happen.
