May I ask what on your resume says you’re a great chooser of HFC?

My 8 years of employment with Parker Executive Search where my job was to literally evaluate resumés of candidates for a wide array of positions, including athletics. I get it. You are a big fan of Lane Brady. That is awesome. I just personally do not see what you do and that is okay. If he gets the Moss Point job. Best of luck. He will absolutely need it.

Have you ever been in the coaching profession or actually hired a high school coach? When it comes to judging high school coaches, you can throw away all of the stuff that big businesses and colleges use to make hires. High school coaching is extremely personal when it comes to hiring. You don’t simply choose someone based off a resume like you do in other professions or in colleges. In big business and college coaching, you are hired to do one specific job. In high school coaching, you have a multitude of jobs that you have to fill.

Who is the favorite then?

Personally, I can see Harmon coming back. I think Murphy is going through a change in Mobile and if they allow him to stay retired, I can see it. Also, maybe a coach from the Hinds County area plus an out of state guy. Moss Point can be an attractive job. I personally don't see the Taylorsville guy as the favorite. Doesn't mean he isn't or won't get the job, I will say it's a surprising candidate IMO.

You keep swimming in circles, buddy. My former job and what Athletic Directors at the high school level are pretty much the same thing. My brother has been a coach at the collegiate level (D2 and FCS) along with 20+ years of high school experience as an AD/HFC. It is not rocket science. You vet the candidate, you check references among other contacts in regards to them. You evaluate their experience and what they have done. If they meet the criteria for what that school is looking for, typically you bring them in for formal interview. THAT is where you dig in and really find out how they fit and who they are. If you think a college coach is hired for one specific job, you are clueless and I will leave it at that. Not to take anything away from high school coaches because they put in work, but the stress, strain and workload they experience to a college coach is not even comparable. Again, you believe Lane Brady is a great coach and HFC material. I do not. Neither of us is right nor wrong. That is why it is an opinion.

I would be shocked. Moss Point essentially ran him off. They were over him. I remember when they won region and got put out in the 1st round. They were in an uproar over it. That was a big reason he left in the first place. Community pressure. A lot of the residents there believe they should be competing for state titles and they cannot wrap their heads around the fact that those days are largely over.

And I wasn't necessarily aware of the Harmon backlash but at this point he looks good. I posted the other day that in their past 152 games they are 56-96. In the previous 258 games they were 192-66. Those 152 games featured 6 different coaches while the 258 were only two in Alexander and Sims.

I would like to compare the two occupations. I think that would be a great conversation on a new thread.

Back to the current conversation, I never asked what your brother supposedly did for 20+ years.
I stated that you have obviously never been a part of this profession and have not been truly involved in the hiring process of a high school coach. For you to say that the stress, strain, and workload of a college coach is not even comparable is completely laughable. Both have big workloads but I’ve never seen a college coach have to teach a state tested class, turn in lesson plans, deal with teachers who literally despise anything/anyone to do with athletics, inventory/distribute equipment, do field/building maintenance, produce with what is giving to them not who they hand pick, and that is just the basics of high school coaching. With all that being said, if you are clueless about this profession then you should never criticize a coach that someone thinks would be a good head coach. I understand that your opinion of my choice is not great, but that doesn’t mean it is wrong.

I agree with that. I don’t see anyway that Harmon is welcomed back.

Their Middle School team won their division championship this year so some talent appears to be on the way. However, they have been losing kids to transfer the last 2-3 years. So it would not surprise for some of those kids to be wearing different uniforms in the next few years. It is a tough, tough job.

They have a major problem keeping kids from going to Pascagoula and of coast teams that are rolling right now. Like you said, the only way to be successful there is to make sure that middle school group stays together at Moss Point

He has applied for several jobs.  I suppose he wants out of T’Ville badly.

Everyone at every level in Taylorsville want out badly.  Parents try to get their kids in other schools as well.  Taylorsville is a sinking ship in every facet.
