When the new regions and the schedules came out, this was the game everyone circled in 3-6A to decide the title, and here it is. This is the best defense Hattiesburg has faced, but at the same time, the Hattiesburg defense is probably the best West Jones has faced. Which offense can move the ball enough to balance time of possession, win the field position, and not turn over the ball? Special teams may be a big factor too. WJ kicker is very good, most kickoffs are in the end zone, and has range up to 50 on field golds. Punting has been fine, nothing special but solid. Not sure what Hattiesburg has there. If West Jones can stop the run and force Hattiesburg into predictable passing downs, advantage West Jones, but the same can be said if Hattiesburg forces WJ and the 9th grade QB into a lot of 3rd and longs too. With these 2 defenses, one pick six, one scoop and score, or one big special teams return, could decide this game.

West Jones 42 PRC 0. Half

West Jones 14. PRC. 0. 8:30 1st qtr

Well, both teams season should end right now. But, if we are going to stop this foolishness, there needs to be some REAL punishment dolled out to all the one's fighting, including the cheerleaders and spectators. No more slaps on the wrist. This is not getting better. "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results".

Hattiesburg just does not need to let Terry hang around in a 1-score game in the 2nd half. The West Jones Terry score should have been 10 or 14 to zero at half. West moved the ball the whole 1st half, went for it on 4th down twice in field goal range and were stopped. Then, threw an interception at the goal line right before halftime that led to the safety. In the 2nd half, Terry defense picked it up some, knowing they were still in the game and had a chance to pull the upset. They can throw it too, the lefty QB put some balls on the money late in that game that would have been TDs, if not for the WJ DB making a play.

I'm in the "Picayune by 2 to 3 scores" camp also. GC gave up 28 to Hancock and 34 to Hattiesburg. Not sure they have the defense to hang with the Tide for 4 quarters. I take it that the GC QB is really good, but scoring quickly against Picayune is not beneficial. All that does is put your defense back on the field quicker. Once your defense is gassed from the pounding, it's game over then.

The WJ bye came at a good time after the Terry game. With 2 weeks to clean up things, I expect a 100% improvement. WJ 4 Forest Hill 0.
-
Uh Laurel won by 2 scores, I think EC only scored 28.

this is hilarious. We have exceeded 50 posts on a game that will end with a running clock most likely.

I know that sport books don't issue betting lines on MS high school football, but if they did, there would not be a line on this game.

No way Raiderguy?? ????

LOL, No doubt. If Hattiesburg beats West Jones 1-0 and Terry beats Hattiesburg 1-0 , REGION CHAMPS BABY!!!!!
-
Exactly, I started the WJ vs Terry thread and said Trap game. 9th grade QB played like a 9th grade QB tonite. Nobody is giving the Terry defense any credit either. Just maybe, Terry is pretty good, WJ had an off night, an Hattiesburg will have to beat both on the field, not on this message board.

Defense. Always been fast and attacking, but this year’s group is all of that with more size.

Downfall of Jackson is a tragedy, not only for Jackson but Mississippi as well. This should be a case study for future generations of electing and holding city officials accountable of their actions. Sadly though half the people don’t even bother to vote .

Classic trap game here. New region opponent, and a Thursday game, which is not the normal routine. Terry @ 4-2, with loss to 7A Clinton an a solid Vicksburg team. Probably the 3 seed in 3-6A but upsetting WJ or Hattiesburg changes everything.

Slick as to WC you are right. I was an have been there for all the glory years, several of those that ended a West Jones state championship run for my team. And as Merlin, I have enjoyed the lately. But just watching the WC offense the last few years, I’m asking “what exactly are they trying to do?”. There is no deception, there is no calling these plays to setup this play. And I understand they may not have a Lampley or Johnson, but my gosh they have some winning players on offense. I just don’t get it.Something is holding them back an I don’t think it is Hankins himself.
-
Oh yeah, I forgot they stayed down. Oh well, just give them the gold ball now.
-
It certainly looks like it Hattiesburg and West Jones in 3-6A. I think Terry could be dangerous if you don't show up ready to play. WJ will see them this Thursday. As for WJ, there needs to be a focus on cutting down the penalties on offense. 10 against JP and the offense right now is just not good enough to over come that many against the better teams. As for the North, it appears that West Point is starting to find their way again, and will probably find their way all the way to Oxford.

The offense own worst enemy in 2nd Qtr. Get to red zone an multiple holding penalties
-
West Jones 9 JP. 0. 80 yd opening drive capped off 45 QB run. JP snapped punt out of the end zone. JP No first downs.
-
Yes, I fully expect JP to have the best passing attack that WJ has and will see this year. And I expect it to be a really good football game. However, I don't see JP scoring 24 unless their defense or special teams chip in some. JP had 10 points at the 6:00 mark of the 4th QTR against Jackson Academy. WJ defense looks to be a lot better than Jackson Academy. West Jones 27 JP 13.

This and This pretty much sums it up for me. Why does enrollment have to be the only issue? The Old 6A schools were all big anyway, with the resources and plenty of athletes to choose from to compete. It's not just 1A that's bad either. In 3-6A there are only 5 schools competing in football with only 2 of those having a realistic chance to win the region championship. So the whole season basically comes down to that 1 game on the schedule. In competitive regions of past years, you could have 3 or even 4 teams still in the mix with 1 or 2 games left on the schedule. That's all gone now. It was a horrible decision to go to 7 classes.
-
Yeah, me too. After the JP game, Terry would look to be the most formidable opponent we have left, before the D.I. Patrick game.
-
No doubt. JP will be the most balanced offense WJ will see this year. They average around 180 passing and 180 rushing per game. The only opponent we have faced this year that had any success( and it wasn't much...) on offense was Laurel, and that was thru the air. JP will have a much better passing attack than Laurel and I bet there mix of run vs pass play calling will be spot on. Our defensive coaches will earn their pay this week for sure.
