Good comeback picayune. WJ offense just not good enough to close out a 10 point lead. Both defenses left everything on the field.

West Jones 17 Picayune 7 half

here, but you have to pay. https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/

If WJ can repeat the performance from last week against EC, this should be a really good game. I've seen them all year, but the last 2 games, WC and EC, have been different. They are playing as a team now, for each other. The false starts and defensive offsides penalties are gone. i think all the adversity they have faced this year, with injuries, bad performances, (see Laurel),.etc.. has brought them together. Beating the #1 team in 5A at their house will be very hard, but win or lose, I just want to see the team I saw for the last 2 weeks.

I think we are going to see a game that is dominated by 2 really good defenses. Picayune this year and in the past has scored so many points that no one talks about their defense. Throw out the Gautier game and they have given up 81 points, or roughly 7 points a game. That's elite. Gautier is going to do that to most teams, Irving is that good and HS teams just don't see and can't stop a really good passing attack. WJ, if you throw out the MC opening game, has given up roughly 9 points a game. They normally rely on the defense more than Picayune and this front 7 is one of their best I've seen and they are finally healthy. A turnover or special team mistake that results in a short field could be huge in this game. WJ will have to play their best game but that's how it's supposed to be this time of year.

Yes, the senior QB came back. He had 2 TD passes roughly 40 yards each. Looked pretty good and even ran the ball a little, took some hits. I guess the collarbone is ok. WJ certainly a different offense with him as opposed to the 9th grader, but I will say that freshman is going to be a pretty good QB given some time to grow.

Agreed, 21 points may be enough to win

West Jones 38 EC 0. 7:00 4th

Anybody have Picayune an Laurel?
-
West Jones 21 EC 0. 9:00 2nd EC 6 possessions no 1st downs

I think all the top seeds win. Picayune, Gautier, Hattiesburg, West Jones.

I have held off responding to the WJ/WC referee controversy so that I could get as much information as possible. Here's what I have found from reliable sources: The WJ basketball coach is part of that crew, but was in the press box. Another member of the crew did not show up, so yes, the WJ coach came out of the box and was working the WJ sideline. He did not throw a flag the whole game. The film was sent to Jackson and reviewed. They said the holding calls on the 2 WC TDs were obvious calls for whichever referee threw the flag (but again not the WJ coach...) And it gets better. The no show referee is an attorney in Wayne County. So if he came, you would have had a WC guy on the field. I guess that is better than a school employed ref. , but not much.

Well, the biggest upset would be Laurel over Picayune. If I win the 1.9 billion power ball tonight, I might bet on that one.

Thanks, that what I thought. That's good for WJ because we do stop the run better than the pass. No word on the Senior QB and his injury. Pierson did say he may be back for the playoffs. Without him, we wont' throw it much either. With this offense, WJ can't give EC short fields with poor special teams and turnovers.

Tell me about East Central. Are they a Picayune-light offense? Can they or do they throw it much?

Thanks for the updates go tigers

Final West Jones 14. Wayne 7 Go Hattiesburg!
-
West Jones 14 Wayne C. 7 end 3rd Both drives all running plays out of spread or heavy package.
-
Wayne County 7. West Jones 0 both defenses playing well. WJ very conservative on offense. Only a few penalties, very clean, fast 1st half.
-
With Hattiesburg's newly minted passing attack they unveiled in the 1st QTR against West Jones, they can avenge last years loss. The left handed QB could deliver the ball accurately when he had time. But, they have to cut down on the personal fouls and unsportsmanlike penalties. That was the only reason West Jones had even a remote chance in the 4th QTR last Friday.

Standings at the top of Region 3 5A heading into the final week
David44 replied to Wareaglefan1us's topic in Football
If WJ beats WC and Hattiesburg beats Laurel, then WJ 2nd WC 3rd Florence 4th (if they beat Natchez) otherwise Laurel 4th. If WJ beats WC and Laurel beats Hattiesburg, then 3 way tie @ 5-2, goes to points for 2nd, then head to head 3rd and 4th. Laurel currently at +4, WC is +3, WJ is -7. If WJ beats WC by 12 or more. WJ 2nd WC 3rd Laurel 4th. If WJ wins by 11 or less, then Laurel 2nd WJ 3rd WC 4th. If WC beats WJ and Laurel beats Hattiesburg, then WC 2nd Laurel 3rd WJ 4th If WC beats WJ and Hattiesburg beats Laurel, then WC 2nd Laurel 3rd WJ 4th Basically, if WC beats WJ Thursday, the seedings are set before Hattiesburg vs Laurel Saturday. -
This is final score

Hattiesburg 20 West Jones 14 Freshman QB completed 2 passes 10:00 4th
-
