  1. MS doing exactly what they need to do in Game1
  2. You mean RB don't you?
  3. oh ok, moving up then. South 5a may not be much harder though then where they are now.
  4. Boy, that was just a total failure by Birmingham. It's either one of two things. Whoever was manning the post there is totally incompetent or they had no procedures/precedents in place to follow for what happened. Maybe this will be the incident that will give them a so called playbook to follow next time, or at least what not to do. All in all though, it was a good series win by MS.
  5. kudos to Alabama for advancing, but not sure it they recover from yesterday's Grand Canyon game. There is physical basketball, but that was violent and physical. The Refs literally could have called 100 fouls in the 2nd half, but it would have took 4 hours to finish. Every rebound there was a foul, every put back a foul, every attempted steal after a rebound, a foul.
  6. I think it’s official now. This ain’t the MS baseball team from last year. Great start by Stephen. Playing with house money tomorrow.
  7. I didn't see all the games this year, but that was the best game I have seen MS play thus far. Cam Matthews at point guard just killed Tennessee. Defense and rebounding effort was outstanding.
  8. 34-18 Miss State. My goodness Cam Matthews. A highlight reel drive and slam.
  9. Looks like a different team now in the 2nd half.
  10. Pretty good weekend for us in D-1 baseball. Miss State sweeps and moves to 12-4. Ole miss sweeps Morehead State to get to 12-5. USM rebounds from the MS midweek loss, takes the 1st 2 games and series on the road against a good La Tech team that came in 12-1. We may (or may not...) have hope for following college sports once basketball has ended. Big weekend coming, Ole Miss hosts SC , MS host LSU, and USM hosts Marshall.
  11. And I agree, that broadcast was just awful. The on screen scoreboard was wrong nearly all the time, showing wrong # of outs, ghost baserunners. I think they finally, mercifully took it down after the rain delay.
  12. Yeah, I think as a whole MSU pitching looks much stronger than last year. The pen came in and did very well. That last guy looks like a legit SEC closer to me. USM pitched well too, for the most part. They have some holes in that batting order right now. 1B should not be hitting in the 9 hole. And I like the FR catcher, but he better start throwing some base stealers out. 5 SB is about 4 too many for me.
  13. USM wins the series with Indiana State Saturday and goes for the sweep today. D1 Baseball featured this series going into the weekend, 2 super regional teams from last year. USM bats starting to wake up and finally hit for some power. Still too many strikeouts, but if you can get those extra base hits and HRs, makes it a little more acceptable.
  14. USM splits the Saturday Sunday games with Missouri State to take the series. Freshman Seth Smith comes thru again, driving in the winning run Sunday. Considering that no one with 10 or more ABs is hitting .300, the 6-2 record is certainly acceptable. If this team can start hitting at a reasonable level, they should be ok. Barring injuries the pitching has been and should be good enough. Coach Oz knows how to build a staff, how to call pitches, and how to get the most from every arm he has.
  15. As we know the top 4 get the double bye. State is in the next 4, and probably can’t get there, But they are playing as good as anyone in the SEC right now.
  16. USM moves to 5 and 1, scoring the winning run bottom of the 8th in a really well played college baseball game. it’s early but the eagles seem to have hit another coaching HR with coach Ostander. Hill Denson to Corky Palmer to Scott Berry, now Oz. There’s a lesson there somewhere, maybe not going completely outside of the program and maintaining a culture?
  17. Don’t understand why Jans would call a last second play sending a 59% foul shooter to the hole, knowing he may get fouled on the drive.
  18. 12 seconds down 2, Hubbard 3 pt turn the lights out.
  19. State’s effort, defense, rebounding, and Hubbard’s great 1st half are certainly commendable, but still going into the half tied and on a 80 point pace game. They need another player (Tolu?) to have a big 2nd half.
  20. The talking heads on ESPN this morning said Campbell had went for it all year, and was right. Well, all those times were not when a trip to the SB was on the line. Not only did it cost you 3 points each time, it gave SF the momentum.
  21. Yeah could not have been much worse. if not for the true freshman Hubbard they get run out of the gym. I don’t understand how you can play very good defense at the Hump but give up 43 on the road 1st half. Makes no sense.
  22. Saturday was better, Friday games not so good. It's hard even for a very good grounds crew, to maintain a wet field when they get an hour or so break between games. This is breakdown of the other state championships in the deep south (included Texas anyway...) Alabama does a rotation like we do, Tuscaloosa Auburn Birmingham. We were the only 2 states on grass this year. Louisiana Caesars Superdome Turf Texas AT&T Turf Arkansas War Memorial Turf Tennessee Finley Turf Georgia Mercedes Benz Turf Florida Bragg Memorial Turf Alabama Bryant Denney Grass Mississippi Vaught Hemingway Grass
  23. Yes, playing for a gold ball state title should be an experience they never forgot, totally agree. SEC stadium certainly checks that box. But maintaining that grass field was a lost cause given the weather we had. Several of our 7 games had players slipping down constantly, maybe they needed different cleats, but they are small high schools that don't have/bring/afford those. You know it's bad when the game announcers are going overboard complementing how much sand the grounds crew has dumped on the field. Hey, but sand is cheap an quite abundant right. If you are playing 7 games in 3 days in December if should be in a stadium with a turf field.
  24. Don't preach at me about supporting MY kids Buster... When they were in school, I didn't miss a darn thing, ever. Booster club president, Show choir president,..etc. I still support the school though they are long gone. And it's not all about me anyway. I can watch it on TV, but there are a lot of people in the pine belt that didn't go because it was 4-5 hours away, that would have otherwise.
