Did they ever hire anyone?

So what do they do now? Start the process all over or go to number 3 or 4 on their list?

So this will be a spring sport? How will it conflict with softball in the spring and in the fall with Volleyball? Glad to see it coming. Wondering who will coach it at the schools.

I heard they had a few decent apply just the ones they interviewed were not that strong.

Seems like a lot of these schools are dragging there feet!

I mean are these guys going to interview anyone this year? Starting to look like the New Orleans Saints.

Why? There are no competitive private schools. The ones currently in the MHSAA are not competitive in football. Other states us them because those schools recruit kids and become football powerhouses.

In my opinion, he would be the worst candidate. From what I have heard, part of what got him run off from Jones was his lack of discipline and their inability to win games with pretty good talent. I Don't really see him being the right guy for that job. It may be time for him to fade off into the shadows!

I've heard he turned down all the previous open positions before their interview process even started and is now in the process of turning down the few left open.

Any names at this time?

I heard there where people with more experience that applied but who knows nowadays.

One name I haven't heard is Gandy. He coached there forever, was the head coach at Quitman, and had success there. Now, he is the DC at Meridian. Would he not be a good candidate?

I have heard a lot of others have started interviews. This is one it seems like they knew was coming but have not been real prepared now that it did.

Hattiesburg has never won a State Championship and Tony has taken them twice in his time there. I agree with a few people that a lot of stuff goes on at Hattiesburg outside of the X's and O's, and he has done a great job with that part. Could he have won one I am not sure but he will go down as one of the better to have coached there. Congrats on your retirement coach. As far as his replacement yes they will have to get the money up. Currently, the A.D. part is not included in the job, and that's when he made his most money. If they want a Carter or Jones they must get the pay up.

Who are some of these strong names?

Yeah, I had seen that. I was kind of surprised. I thought South had a pretty good team this year. I thought the overall sentiment in town though was he was still pretty much not liked.

So you say all that. Do they make a change with the Coach?

Money drives the MHSAA. A few years ago they stopped taking a percentage of the classic games. Not long after that, they came up with the idea of expansion. You must realize they get a percentage of every playoff game of every sport and classification. So by adding a classification they essentially improved their income by 15%. They may use the idea of ohhh this gives more kids an opportunity to compete in the playoffs. As you have said though it has watered-down classifications and it won't be long before we are just like the MAIS.

This is happening more and more than people realize. Most administrations have no backbone and a group of unrealistic parents come in can make some sad things happen.
