Good question. Always seems like they have some D1 talent coming out of there but always underachieve.
-
Who will they go after?
-
Heard over the weekend this job may be coming open! Any word?
-
Does Aycock have any head experience? Didn't Lowery just get to N. Forrest? What did they do this year?
-
You realize that the majority of coaches salary comes from teaching and most get a very minimal supplement for coaching. I doubt many would put in all the time and effort for 10 to 15k a year if that's all they made!
-
They need a 4 year degree because they have to be certified to teach. Tis is a MHSAA rule. All major sport coaches have to be certified to teach. Kind of impossible to be a teacher with out a 4 year degree.
-
My thoughts exactly.
-
Archie is going into an administrative position at Gulfport. Don't really see him leaving that.
-
If they where smart!
-
Heck I know a head coach right now that teaches half a day and barely makes over 10k for a supplement. I admit he is at a smaller school where a 6A guy may have more things to take care of running a program but he also has more hands on deck. This guy does just about everything around his school to make the program work. He does all those things and cuts grass, and drives a bus route, and so may other things! State of Mississippi was tied for most players in the super bowl. Think about what our talent would be like if we really invested in those sports like other states do.
-
So they pass on a Head Coach with a 63-19 record and 2 state championships whos had 1 losing season his first year as a head coach with a 6-7 record, who by the way was the OC at Clinton for years for a guy with now HC experience. That learning curve better be quick! You lose 6-A Mr. Football, hope they can do well. Good luck to him!

Could not have said it any better JJ!

Well Charelston has great athletes and their coach continued to make bad decisions. Why would you stay in cover 0 with the best QB in 2A who signed with a juco and one of the Best Wr. out of the state a USM signee. So you just proved my point! A great coach takes great athletes and wins games. The ones that matters and he has done that the last 2 years. They may have not still won the game but Charleston would not have gotten blown out like they did if they got out of that coverage and gave the DB some help. And they way Stockstill lined up and attacked the man coverage all night proves my point even more. He took his great athletes and took advantage of what Charleston gave him!
-
Well I can tell you all this much, Jeff Stockstill can coach. I watched him this year in the State Championship game and they completely dominated Charleston. Their 2 losses over the last 2 years where to 2-A State Champion Bay Springs and 4A State Runner ups Mendenhall who they beat both of last year. I don't know Bramlett and I hope he does a good job but one of the Jackson Schools will wise up and hire Stockstill soon and he will have them going!

Heard they where looking for a head coach. They should be better next year. They are dropping down from 3A to 2A. Where is Embry going?
-
I talked to a couple of close friends with ties to the program. Said he is not doing well and waiting for his 2 daughters to make it in town to see him. Prayers for Him and His family! they will need it in the next couple of days!

No!

I agree with you Wildcats and Vott those are just names that may be interested. I think both got pretty good situations where they are at. Both may have some critics where they are but, they also have pretty good situations and I'm sure the money is fairly comparable between those 3 schools. Meridian has had a lot of success in the past and a ton of history but they have not been relevant in a while. Last won a championship in 2008 when Tyler Russell and the wildcats upset South Panola. Haven't won a District Championship since 2011. I agree, Cheyenne may be one of the best A.D's in the state. He will get this hire right for sure! It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Tony Vance- Could leave Hattiesburg. Him and Trussell have a relationship from Hattiesburg but is that enough to pull him away. Chris Jones- Again another person has a relationship with, but he is at an established program that is winning and what would really pull him away from that. Randall Montgomery- He would love this job and may have a chance at it. Dark Horses- Damian Gary (Hazelhurst), Rashad Gandy (Quitman) Teddy young (Noxubee) maybe a few other guys
-
I agree. It is hard to beat a team twice. Yes Mendenhall is good! Part of the reason it is tough sometimes is the team that one the first time, over looks them the second. I think this will be a tough game for Quitman but Coach Gandy has done a great job winning these first two rounds. No what it is tough to win two playoff games.

The Little Brown Jug has been played longer and has a longer history even surviving the year of Katrina, but has lost some of its importance since it has not affected the schools playoff implications for a while and the schools have maybe rivals that have taken some of the attention off of it. It is still a big game though for both schools! The eat dirt is a rivalry due to proximity and how the schools have grown as rivals where the Jug has diminished some. Both are great rivalries though!
-
that's the word!
-
So at 1-9 they get to go play a 6-4 East Marion. East should run away with this one. They are undefeated in district and have been playing better the last few weeks!
-
What makes no sense to me is they say it is a shortage of officials but they have enough to cover them the other 10 weeks out of the year. What it really boils down to is they don't have enough good officials. So they split them up next week so their better officials can go cover a playoff game out of their area.

Leadership is a word I would use loosely! Sounds like they are going back towards more of their old ways of controlling everything!
